Stratocaster VS. Telecaster

Which one do you think is better? (I myself prefer the strat). Explain why you think one has an advantage over the other. Feel free to post pics

Re: Stratocaster VS. Telecaster

I like 'em both.

I play my Strat a lot, and have a Chinacaster (Squire Affinity Tele) project guitar that plays and sounds quite good.

I have a push/push pot in my Strat that activates the neck pickup--this way I can get that Tele middle position sound with the pickup selector in the bridge position.

Re: Stratocaster VS. Telecaster

Tough question. I don't think one is better. Both are distinctive sounding guitars that are, for many, absolutely essential.

If I HAD to choose, I'd choose a strat. But not because I think it's better. Nothing on the strat is better than the tele bridge pickup. I take the strat for vesatility and the vibrato bar.

Re: Stratocaster VS. Telecaster

Totally different beasts, and both have their place. If I could only have one guitar period, a nice heavy as hell soild ash tele with vintage plate, good alnico 5 pups and a 4 way switch would be my first choice.

Instead of asking "which is better", you should ask "which do you prefer", I have two strats and a tele , and all are essential pieces of my aresenal.

Re: Stratocaster VS. Telecaster

For me it's like asking which I like better: a chisel or a flathead screwdriver?

They're different tools for different jobs. Strat is more comfortable. Yet there is a workman-like feel to the plank of wood that is a Telecaster. I dig that. Strats are fancier, but with fancy comes the potential for more adjustment problems and irritations.

I've tried to hit the best of both worlds with a Nashville Tele (middle pickup like a Strat) so I can get the cool notch tones of a Strat but still basically have a Tele. Still, I know it's not "just as good as a Strat". It's more like having a chisel that I can sometimes use as a screwdriver too...

My Nashville Tele w/Warmoth Boatneck and Wilkinson compensated bridge:

WRONG again! MIA Telecasters are nice, but are not 'better than everything' for all styles of music or all players.

If you like MIA Telecasters better than all other guitars, then that is your preference, but not all of us here agree....after all; this is a LES PAUL forum!

Which is better? A hammer or a screw-driver?

Essentially the same question. That said, I play my Tele more.

Re: Stratocaster VS. Telecaster

Personally I like the sound of both, but in the looks Category a Strat just looks sexier to me. With all those curves and Contours, it just screams "play me!"

There never has been, or ever will be a Gibson Les Paul, that can sound as good as a properly built Telecaster or Stratocaster.

Re: Stratocaster VS. Telecaster

I sold my strat in preference to a tele. I love the fat neck and slab of a body my tele has and am enjoying a whole new episode playing guitars. I'll probably get a 62 strat reissue in the future, I like them alot! It depends what mood Im kinda in... They are both equally a pleasure to play and sometimes hard to distinguish which is which! Both have great tones.

At the end of the day there are three electric guitars you shouldn't be without:

LP, Strat & a Tele (in no preferencial order!!) They all inspire me regardless of origin, as long as it has that killer tone!!! Yessss!!!! :-)

Re: Stratocaster VS. Telecaster

I knew that the poor guy was gonna get hammered when I saw the topic and then a few more mowed down with odd reply's. I even had $$ on who would do the mowing?

ANYHOW
Look at LZ I & II ya think that those jewles were recorded w/ a LP, but come to find out TELE?
Hendrix made a Strat sound like....well.... not my fathers Oldsmobile or to me even a Strat?
I have a Tele with dule hunbuckers and a coil tap, think LP?
I have a Strat with S1 wiring, the all 3 pups is well, not Strat like.

A stock Strat is more for me that a stock Tele.
The Strat is thought of as first a Surf sound the Rock N Roll.
The Tele Country misic. Maybe thats why John 5 stiil uses one, he started hin pro career as a player for a country singer. Then slaped a humbucker in it and went over to Rob Zombie. His Tete sounds GREAT!
There is something about that neck lip stick Tele pup.
Kinda like a LP that has a P-90, something about it.

So I'll say gimmie a Strat with a SSH set up.
Oh wait ain't that my BC Rich Super Strat?

The only question better than this one is "Which is better for blues - Les Paul or Stratocaster?", or "Ginger or Mary Ann?"
