New Guitar - ESP/LTD EC-1000 DeLuxe

I went to the shop for a set of strings and this followed me home. I've had my eye on an LP style LTD for sometime and when I saw how great the condition and good of a price I couldn't resist. It's also in the vintage black finish I would have chosen had I bought it new anyway. I'm actually shocked by how much I ended up loving this axe.
It's definitely the most comfortable of all 16 of my guitars. Contoured back, ultra-thin neck, smallish body, relatively lightweight. The satin finish is ideal for the neck feel and is also very low maintenance. This is also my only guitar that has the Sperzel locking tuners and Tone-Pros locking bridge and stopbar. Those tuners are ideal and make changing strings very easy.
I know EMGs aren't everyone's fave but for metal(which is what I'll use this for), they are great. It has the 81/60 set. I'm pretty sure that a guitar with EMGs can be instantly connected to Seymour Duncan Blackouts using the quick-connect plug. Therefore I plan on getting one for the bridge position. Oh ya, normally I hate gold hardware, but on this I like it for whatever reason. Came with a hardshell ESP case too. I'm really thrilled about this new guitar I got last Thursday. Obviously I am happy with its tone too.

Re: New Guitar - ESP/LTD EC-1000 DeLuxe

Very, very nice. I love the ESP EC series. I thought the 1000 series had a non plain top? I know the Red/Blue/Green variants do, but I thought the black one did too.

Upon further review, it does
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/p...sku=527000#new

Didn't know it came in a plain top. Cool.

Re: New Guitar - ESP/LTD EC-1000 DeLuxe

Thanks guys. I'm very happy with this guitar. The one I have is the one at the very bottom of this page.

The ESP Guitar Company :: LTD Deluxe Guitars - EC-1000 Series

It's vb = Vintage Black. It's the only one with an ebony fretboard and satin finish. I'm very seriously thinking of also someday getting the model with the Seymour Duncan '59/JB p'ups. It's such an amazingly comfortable guitar to play. I just got a set of Seymour Duncan Blackout p'ups that I hope I can just connect with the plastic clip and good to go. I believe you can do that when swapping EMGs for Blackouts. We'll know shortly, stay tuned.

Re: New Guitar - ESP/LTD EC-1000 DeLuxe

It most definitely is possible to just plug in a Seymour Duncan Blackout in place of an EMG by simply using the 3-pin connector. The whole thing from start to finish to replace both pups only took about an hour. I was even able to keep the same strings(which I had just changed 3 days ago) because of the Sperzels.

Right on Wolff! Hey, ESP guitars get respect and deserve more, too! My old 80's mongrel ESP Strat has payed for herself dozens of times from gigs! Don't the dudes in Metallica play ESP's? Everyone knows George Lynch kicked MUCHO ass on ESP's! I was lucky enough to see Dokken live 3 times back in the mid to late 80's. No bad press from ESP guitars from this retired Pro.....\\

Re: New Guitar - ESP/LTD EC-1000 DeLuxe

Yeah. James and Kirk play primarily ESP's and Gibsons, often interchanging between the two brands. They were, I'm pretty sure, exclusive ESP players for most of the 80's/early 90's if I'm not mistaken.

I'm pretty sure James actually has Gibson and ESP versions of a few of his guitars, like the Iron Cross.

Re: New Guitar - ESP/LTD EC-1000 DeLuxe

After playing it for a week now with the Blackouts, I'm even happier than before. I find it so comortable to play with an ideal neck that I plan on buying the EC-1000 with the Seymour Duncan '59/JB p'ups(pictured below). It is the LTD version but even those I've seen in the hands of Pros(Kirk from Down for example). Yeah, Metallica is the #1 ESP endorser with Kirk and James both having signature models. That Iron Cross LP Custom is certainly one of the coolest looking guitars I have ever seen though. I believe those are EMGs with Gibson covers.

Re: New Guitar - ESP/LTD EC-1000 DeLuxe

I love the way they sound, most models look killer, necks feel great.....I just cant get used to the hurdles they use for frets.....I really want to bond with one....mebbe someday, one good thing about them is that in great condition, they seem to hold their value ,uch more than other imports, I actually came out quite abit ahead when I parted ways with my LTD M400FM.

Congrats on the new axe!!

Re: New Guitar - ESP/LTD EC-1000 DeLuxe

"Bond". Never thought of that but it's exactly what happened with my EC-1000. I find the frets on that to not be quite as JUMBO as on my ESP/LTD Viper and the neck is definitely slimmer(which I love). I'm glad the guy who sold it to me wasn't aware that they hold their value because I got it for $650.00 with hardshell case. They are $950.00 new without a case.

Re: New Guitar - ESP/LTD EC-1000 DeLuxe

On the LP / Eclip side they basicly say, OURS is a Gibson that has had all the NEEDED up grades already done.
Tuners
Pick-ups
A diecent nut
Killer tops, @ no extra $$
Bridge & tailpiece
AND
For 1/2 the charge of a Gibson...sure this is a LP site and I love them to, but for the cash an ESP or for that matter a LTD will hang right in there!!

So you like the Blackouts better than the EMG's ?? I was thinking about tryin some BO's too.

Now if they could only get Jimmy Page to play one???!!

Now if your into the Super Strat or Randy Rhodes type of guitars, Electric Sound Products (ESP) has em covered! Ask Kramer & Schecter where they used to and maybe still get their stuff from?
I love the Eclipse but gotta have an Alexi Blacky!!! No need for all them pups and knobs?

nope James played an explorer for a large part of the 80's and early 90s. And I believe Hammett was playing his Jackson v for a good part of the 80's and early 90's. He also played the black Les Paul. And if I remember and I will call my buddy josh at esp they got there partial endorsement deal from ESP in the early 80's and full deal in 88 or 89. My bud is the it lead over at ESP so I will ask to confirm this with him when he comes by later. I am trying to get an LTD at his price as I am really impressed with his.

Re: New Guitar - ESP/LTD EC-1000 DeLuxe

Hey coolaid! I was reading that Kramer used to buy parts, like necks from the old ESP before ESP built their own guitars?
In fact thats what gave ESP the idea to start selling a guitar with their name on it.
Something like, well we make EVERY part on a guitar SO why don't we slap em all togeather and call it....ESP?

PS Im GaSSin a Kramer Nightswan!!! all white maybe like Mick Mars!!

Re: New Guitar - ESP/LTD EC-1000 DeLuxe

That is by far my favorite ESP I have picked up. And the satin black is the coolest of the colors it comes in. I was just playing one at work today and was having trouble putting it down. I had it running into a little Vox Night Train and it KILLED!

That Alexi Blacky is a BAMF too.

you are absolutely correct i remember that now. I thought you meant they were being built before the Kramers were. good call. My buddy has an American custom I think I will post a pic of it later. By the way that LTD is a beauty.

That Eclipse is a nice guitar. I always think it looks a little odd with 24 frets, but they grow on you.

Yeah, how do ya like the longer neck?
And do you string it like a LP with a little heavier strings or a Fender with a little lighter ones to help bending?

The Epi Prophecy has that long neck with a satin finish, any idea how they compare?
I just love yours!

Wolff!!! Nice axe dude! That flat black finish with the goldhard ware and binding just sets it off bro.

I was thinking about getting a Custom but after playing a few at guitar center I can't stand the neck. On my Gibby Les Paul Standard I got a 60s neck... I'm thinking maybe one of these ESPs might be my golden ticket!

Re: New Guitar - ESP/LTD EC-1000 DeLuxe

The ESP neck is a bit bigger/rounder than the 60's neck. The closest thing I can equate it to is one of my late 70's LP necks, or a bit thinner than the "59 Rounded" profile of a Les Paul Studio.

In terms of the neck length, it's the same scale as a regular Les Paul, it just has two more frets. The Epi Prophesy is a nice guitar, but it feels a bit cheaper to me. Your mileage may vary.
