"Sell all your guitars and buy a Tyler"
Was the comment that reviewers made in "Guitarist" magazine. I read it and said, "yeah right", mumbled something about "funny looking headstock", "superstrats are for shredders", "can't afford a $4000 strat", "what the heck is Mamywo?"
Fast forward a few years and my buddy at work buys a Tyler Classic, and the same thoughts popped up immediately. But then I sat down and played it. Amazing! Less than 7lbs (not hollow!), amazing broken in feel, resonates better than any other bolt on I have played. The neck felt like an old vintage guitar, satin feel, scalloped fretboard edges. Guitar sounds like a cannon unplugged. All my preconcieved misgivings about woods, headstocks and price fly out the window, I am hooked. I sell some stuff, and find an amazing deal on a Tyler Studio Elite Burning Water 2K. Not a Classic, and honestly, a little "showy" for my conservative tastes. But it's all there, tone, versatility, feel, and resonance. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sure it doesn't growl like my Les Paul, or quack like my Strat, but it has a unique modern sound that fits in well with the 70's Classic Rock stuff I do in my band. I have since added a pull pot to activate the piezo bridge PU that was unwired, now I can gig with one axe! |

The headstock reminds me of when you get your pinewood derby kit and the block of wood kind is in the basic shape of a car to get you started and you need to cut and sand it to your specs. Is that what you are supposed to do with that headstock?

That thing could have a pocket pussy in the back and I wouldn't like it with that head stock!!
I am sure it is a really nice playing guitar but I agree, this looks like a paddle style head stock on kits- But, it's not my guitar it's your's. Enjoy it and play the heck out of it. |

In the end one of the major reasons i went with Suhr is after i watched Guthrie Govan live. After the show i had a chat with him about the guitars which was the tipping point,.. I had to have one. I would very much like to get a Tyler in the future though, maybe a Studio elite HD.

![]() ![]() The Suhr felt a little sterile, and cold. Maybe it was the setup, or my mood that day? But it didn't feel as broken in or comfy as the Tylers I have played. Kinda like a brand new 70's strat as opposed to a worn in 60's Strat. I will be checking out a Suhr Antique Classic with the new (old?) nitro finishes this weekend though. I like Suhr's dedication to perfection, and they are much more reasonably priced than Tylers. |

Re: "Sell all your guitars and buy a Tyler"
The Suhr has a more Hi Fi sound in some reguards depending on what you choose, and Tyler's necks come as standard with rolled over/semi scalloped edges on the necks, which is something you can ask for from Suhr if you want that broken in feel. There are about 13 neck shapes you can choose from and you can have a neck shape copied if you have a personal favorite.
