Schecter

Buying my first Gibson a year ago prompted me to sell my Ibanez, and give my Fender Strat to my son.

To fill the void a week ago I bought a Schecter Hellraiser. It's my first experience with active EMG's and for playing heavy they wail. I found them a bit sterile, especially when turning the OD down and playing clean. I changed that yesterday with a mod to 18 volts of power to the pickups. Adding another battery in series warmed these pu's right up and really gave it character.

Overall I'm really happy with the Schecter. It's well appointed, with some cool abalone binding and inlay. The Mahogony body, quited maple top combo is very sexy in black cherry, and the neck joint is smooth like butter. You can hardly tell it's a set neck, looks like a neck through. I'm considering replacing the tone pot with an EMG expander active eq. Probably order one tomorrow and dust off the ole' soldering gun.

Re: Schecter

I have a Schecter Ultracure Robert Smith Model. It's a beast of a solid body with a set of 59' Seymour Duncans. It is an amazing guitar! Overall, IMHO I give Schecter a ++ But my first loves are still my Gibsons!

I've been a Schecter dealer for a while. I love these guitars.

Re: Schecter

I have one of those in the Snow Leopard finish. Awesome guitar - no dead spots, great tone, attention to detail...

These are the best guitars for the dollar out there. List price: $999.

Re: Schecter

Agreed on the bang for the buck. After reading review after review saying the same thing, the purchase seemed like a no brainer. Friends who have been jealous of my LP Standard are now in a frenzy over this one.

Greg... those are some cool photos. The Wall 'O' Schecter. Very nice!

Re: Schecter

WoW! Nice Wall OF Worship.

I so want the electric 12 string in red, just like the photo. GC has their wine vomit color exclusive and they can keep it. That twelve is a great guitar with push pulls to boot. And the manner in which the necks are set, Awesome!

Perhaps we need to talk, BCRGreg. What can you sell one for? Real delers like you can get the red one, I just really use GC as a test bed then buy my stuff elsewhere. I'm jut anti big box, what can I say?

Question Re: Schecter

Hey Greg! You'd probably know this....

In the Hellraiser series, is there the cool abalone binding on the black version?

I've been trying to find a picture close enough to tell for sure. The Schecter page looks like not, but some youtube stuff looks like maybe. What's the word?

I actually thought it was neck thru until right before I bought it. I did research on this one (as opposed to my normal knee-jerk guitar buying habit). Sorry for the fuzzy pics. I'd like to think I'm a better musician than photographer, but the jury's still out on that one.

I ordered an EMG Expander tone circuit (rush ordered, I was feeling impulsive) to replace the stock tone pot, and the 18 volt upgrade was really impressive, especially for clean tones. Left a lot of the EMG sterility behind. Lots more headroom when your digging in clean.

Oh! and on top of the playability, tone and curb appeal, the tuners are the smoothest and most accurate I've ever owned. Not that I have to use them often. I'm ten days into this instrument and still very impressed.

Very cool page. That "Generation Next" is a catchy tune. Very nice!

I finished the mods on the Schecter. After doing the 18v thing, I pulled the tone and second volume, and added an EMG Expander and Afterburner in the empty holes. Very cool toys, still learning all the possibilities.

Next I turn my soldering iron loose on my Lester...

There is binding, but it's not abalone. I've got 3 C1's the Classic, Hellraiser and Plus.

Correction, the one in the middle is a Blackjack and the Hellraisers binding is abalone. My bad.

Dave,

That is an amazing LP. What is it? Is it a Gibson.... The pickguard and knobs look way cool.... Am I missing something else?

That's just one cool LP.

It is my 1977 Gibson LP Custom. Here is a better pic. Since this was taken, I have put in an EMG 81/89 set.

So what's up with the:

Pick guard
Pickup covers
Toggle Switch

Are they silver, or typical gold. If they're not silver, they should be

Thanks,

Love the Schecter's, I've got a Damien 6 with passive EMG's. Just added an afterburner and now this axe just sizzles. Definately a metal guitar though.
