Re: squire japan or fender MIM?

Scored the 57 MIJ ! Its brighter and crisper than my 62 type re issue slightly fatter neck also pickups are perfect and nail that classic Fender sound better than the 57/62 types Fender now markets I havent seen Made in Mexico quality half this good
"Made In Japan", is no longer a dirty slogan for guitars

Re: squire japan or fender MIM?

I picked up an early 80's Squier Bullet Strat 2-pu, pg mounted jack, no body bevel) that is more Fender sounding than any fender I have owned. AB'ed with a real '62 Strat, the Bullet held it's own to the point where the owner(my uncle) offered to buy it for multiples of what I got it for. I bought another one and sure enough, while not as good as my first one, is still a great guitar. That one went to my uncle, who still gigs it as opposed
to the real one(although I think he's more worried about being robbed then "the vintage tone" with the value of guitars being publicized these days).
I used it as my number 1 for years when we had another guitarist. I only put it down for buckers and more sonic realestate.

Re: squire japan or fender MIM?

whatabout fender japan there is a japanese fender branch you know.

i prefer a mij fender strat or tele, the necks on a jap fender strat just feel so nice way better than anythign i have played from U.S.A, great sounding pickups and in most cases better quality workmanship than fender U.S.A the only problem is they are hard to get ahold of as they only make enough to supply the japanese market it took me two years to get my XII strat from japan, the neck is incredible on it, the darkest deepest rosewood iv seen on a guitar and the bicest maple the best feel and construction no blemishes to be seen the spreay job on the body is imaculet and its incredibly hard to see the joining line on the two piece body the wood selection, the hardware, the paint job and the craftmans ship are impeckable

Re: squire japan or fender MIM?

I think most people who dismiss Fender? SQuire Japan, MIJ / CIJ have probably never played one, or played one with an open mind
Squire, like Orville, was something originally only intended for the Japanese market Where as Fender MIJ and CIJ Were when Fender was selling those guitars in the US when its US Factory was closed and in transition ,. I'd love to do a blindfolded test challange using a vintage Strat and and either of my MIJ Strats to see if anyone can both either hear or feel the difference
I've played many Fender and Gibson vintage over the years, these guitars scream Vintage Vibe

Sorry, I was talking to GuitarGuru. I ment if its an old Squier Japan vs a new MIM, the Squier would win hands down.

re:American Squier guitars - 2006/12/19 16:49 What I found out was in the early 90s in Mexico where Squiers were made for
1 or 2 years along with Mexican models there was a fire so production of all
Fenders was briefly moved to the US. I remember having a Mexican Squier from around 93. The guitar was basically a Mex. Fender. I'm wondering if these were the same thing

re:American Squier guitars - 2006/12/19 18:44 Well actually there were USA Squiers . Apparently what happened is that
Fender USA parts were shipped to Japan to bridge a shortfall in production as they were having quality issues at the time.
I have seen one of these USA/Jap Squiers and its a bloody gem , he wont sell it too me though .
They do exist therefore , but no idea on the quantity.

re:American Squier guitars - 2006/12/19 19:06 There is, a friend of mine has one.. don't know the exact year but it is 80's.. blonde colour, built in Japan. Made from Fender USA parts.

Worth a fair bit nowadays (about as much as a new USA strat)

Re: squire japan or fender MIM?

email from fender

Hello,
Thanks for writing in. Squier guitars were made in the US for a short
period of time in 1990, and again in 1995. Your guitar is from
the 1990 batch. They were made in the USA because the factory burned
down, TWICE! The parts are both USA and over seas vendor parts. We don't
have an exact count on how many were made. We won't have any information
on your serial number, as it is older than our system. Our system only
goes back to 1993. We hope this information will help you out.

Best Regards,

Jeff Krause
