Re: What was your first electric guitar?
Mines was the mighty Marlin Sidewinder.
I was about 14 or 15 and my parents were on my case to cut my hair. My two sisters were accordian players but had given it up, so in one of my few ever flashes of genius I convinced my Dad to sell the girl's old accordian to buy me a guitar and amp. So, off went the hair and the accordian and in came the mighty Sidewinder accompanied by a 10 watt 'Gorilla' practice amp to accompany it. Forget the Les Paul and Marshall combination, nothing rocks like a Sidewinder through a 10 watt Gorilla, nothing ....

Re: What was your first electric guitar?
My first electric was one I bought myself. Didn't have no such thing as guitar centers back then at home, so I went to the music store and told the guy I wanted a "Jimmy Page guitar", the guy just laughed at me (and with good reason).
Some time later, I returned and bought the cheapest electric I could find! It had no name on it, had the stink to death if you know what I mean, the finish was obviously crappy (dark blue), but I didn't give a shit, it was an electric and that was all I wanted. I then "refinish" (destroyed) that guitar, went from blue to natural (with all those wood filler spots showing), then it went to yellow and then it got a "professional" paint job from a friend who used to refinish furniture. Thing is, he applied the thickest coat of poly you can imagine over the fretboard! ![]() Still have it, in pieces, don't have the heart to get rid of it!

Re: What was your first electric guitar?
My Ma bought me a $49.00 Strat type guitar w/ a black cardboard case @ Woolworths in about 1967. P.O.S.! Next I got a Univox Les Paul that was all nat. including the fretboard. Another P.O.S.! Never stayed in tune, horrible intonation. Then I got cool and got a black Ovation Deacon. The body was made of partical board and had as much balls as my Grand son's Sponge Bob guitar. Took me about 6 years, but I finally got a used Gibson Les Paul and never looked back!

Re: What was your first electric guitar?
My first electric was a Harmony Rocket kit by Heathkit. I built it in about 1965 when I was 14.
The guitar in the pictures is not mine but identical. I wish I still had it. It was a great sounding guitar but I sold it because I wanted a solid body. I recently bought another that I am restoring.

Re: What was your first electric guitar?
Sorry, but I thought the Ovation electric I had was a Deacon. It had the same shape as the Deacon and Breadwinner. It was flat black color w/ a rough textured finish and the body was some sort of pressed wood. It had either a rosewood, or ebony fretboard. The pickups were plastic and metal. Butt ugly!
In any case it sucked and I got rid of it as soon as I could.

Re: What was your first electric guitar?
My first electric was a Harmony/Kay Bass, like this one
![]() wish I had it back, it was a pretty good bass - got it in around '63. I played 6-string and 4-string tenor accoustic prior to that playing folk music. I later traded the Harmony for a VOX bass.

Re: What was your first electric guitar?
Mine was a Sears strat shaped thing with real crapy humbuckers, I remember hooking it up during a bicentenial minute so it must have been 1976.It came with a little POS amp that I soon cut the wires to the speaker and ran it through the cut wires of the stylus of a Pioneer stereo turntable. The turntable position had the most watts to get that squealing feeding back distortion, it sounded terrible but I loved it. I think my parents where thinking what have we done!!

Re: What was your first electric guitar?
My first Electric 6 string was a 70s Memphis Les Paul Jr/Special copy.
Ity looked like a DC Jr with an extra P 90. It had a nice big neck but played horribly. I didn't know about set ups back then. I thought it was the greatest because it appeard to have a set neck like a real Gibson. (It was actually bolted from the inside) That guitar started my love for Juniors which continues to this day. I gave it to a buddy several years ago. Wish I had it. (nostalgia n all) ![]() It looked just like this:

Re: What was your first electric guitar?
![]() Squier Standard Strat. It has been rewired soooo many times. It used to have all Seymour Duncan pickups, but I once had to sell the middle one to pay for something. Two of the pots are push/pull, and there is a mini switch. They have been used for many different functions. Right now they are wired as a coil splitter, phase switcher, and neck-on switch. I'll probably wind up putting a dano style lipstick pickup in the middle just for a completely different option. I don't play it as much now that I have my Burny LPC |

Re: What was your first electric guitar?
Peavey raptor. Basically just a strat knockoff. Came with a little amp. I still have it, its been to hell and back lol. I attempted to take it all apart and tried to make a metal pickguard for it, but I now realize I should have just left it alone lol. It's also got a crapload of green pick scratches on it from the crappy picks that i used to have.

Re: What was your first electric guitar?
A Maya Les Paul copy (circa 1978). Good guitar. Used it for quite a few years. Fitted a Dimarzio X2n and a Might Mite HB in it at some point. Found the original pickups a while back and surprisingly, they were Ibanez Super 70's
