Re: PRS factory tour

Aweome videoes
and even more awesome the photos! nice goin there!!
met the big man himself!

you know other than the two machines, its pretty much
like a mom and pop shop feel to the place doesnt it!
Thats whats really cool about that place.
There is so much "Hands on" work in the place, truely amazing.
Gibson factory seems like something out of 1984 movie compared
to the PRS factory.

Re: PRS factory tour

anyone here know of a guy by the name of ed roman? at some point of time he completely convinced me that the expensive prs company's guitars are all asian made then sent to the US to be assembled to be "officially made in the U.S.A" is this true, and that he said that there machines cant put in frets delicately enough into a ebony fretboard thats why all there fretboards are either indian rosewood or brazilian rosewood?

Not even remotely true. The PRS SE (Student Edition, a budget line) are asian-made (Indo/Korea) but 'real' PRSes, the original thing, are 100% made in Maryland.

And there ARE PRSes with ebony boards. They're just kind of rarer.

Whoever this guy is, he's misled you. :/

Ed Roman was already put in his place once, I hear. He had his PRS dealership rights taken away because he was retopping guitars and selling them as 'factory-new'. He's got a pretty wide reputation for dissing brands he doesn't/no longer carries. He's bashed G&L guitars & basses pretty often too because he no longer can sell 'em.

Most people don't (seem) to take him seriously.

Re: PRS factory tour

Part of me really wants to buy a PRS guitar but they don't offer any models with a bound fretboard, at least I have never seen a production model with a bound fretboard.

I would probably buy one if it weren't for that 1 thing they don't have.

Re: PRS factory tour

Bound fretboards don't matter one bit when you have fretwork like PRS.

Re: PRS factory tour

I know they are great guitars and I played a few of them before. With my slightly over 40 eyes I am finding that I prefer bound fretboards with black dots, maple necks with black dots or rosewood boards with big ole' dots. Smallish white dots on a dark board are getting hard for me to see without staring at the fretboard like a dog on point.

It's hell to get old.

That, and the video was awesome too.

The last guy in the video has the best job in the world, to test play every guitar before they go out!

Re: PRS factory tour

I owned a bunch of them over the years, there was something special about the early ones made up from '85 to '90-91 at the old Virginia Ave factory.
