Re: show off your SG

Paul, this post looks a little lonely, so here's my contribution

First, my Epi G-400 Vintage, one of the first run before they stripped off the neck binding. Currently sporting a set of Tonerider Alnico IV Classic pickups and '50s wiring. The rest is stock. It has surprised many an unsuspecting player.

My other SG, a 2006 SG Jr. Stock P90, 500k vol, 250k tone, Orange Drop cap, '50s wiring. It bites and stings and generally causes all sorts of sonic mayhem. Just the way I like it!

My SG Jr actually has a pretty beefy neck. More like the SG Classic if you've tried one of those.

Man Nothin can teach you or re inforce your picking dynamics and tone control than giggin with a one pickup axe, never owned an SG yet, though it was gonna be my first target Gibson, till I got handed a Les Paul

I agree.
I shy away from reviews and I'm not one for posting them but to reinforce what you're saying here's an extract from one ;

Product: Dearnaley Guitars LP Junior
Price Paid: USD 1000
Submitted 02/13/2007 at 04:52pm by Brian GT

Features : 6
Not a lot! Single cut body with one P90 pickup and a wrap around bridge. White button tuners on three a side strips. One volume and one tone control.
It is in a relic cherry finish in nitro and the ageing and colour are just fabulous. The body and neck, although two seperate pieces, are from the same block of honduras mahogany. It came out of a civic building and is over 150 years old! It has a big , fat neck...just what I asked for!A long neck tenon too.
The pots are CTS and it has original bumblebee caps.
The workmanship is first class....it has definately been made by a luthier who understands wood and has a great knowledge of vintage guitars. It has so much feel it is hard to describe.
Although low on features it has all the ones I want...great tone!

Sound : 10
Sound! Phew! The whole guitar resonates from head to body..acoustically you feel it vibrate through your rib cage.
Simple it may be but the sounds you can get out of this are just fabulous! The pickup was made by Shed pickups and is aged to suit the guitar. It is a very even sounding pickup and you can really get some organic sounds out of it.
The guitar sounds very 3D..very open and chimey and yet it growls when you push it. The volume and tone knobs work really well. Back off the tone knob and you have a neck pickup sound....add the tone back in and lower the volume and you have an almost normal single coil sound. The string seperation is great...very even and clear and yet fat at the same time. No mud!
With gain it gives you a great Tom Petty/ Leslie West sound , plenty of raunch and yet still sweet. I am honestly impressed with the sounds you can get out of one pickup. Perhaps it makes you work at it rather than just flipping a switch to change pickups.
I can now see why Leslie chose one of these for most of his career!

Re: show off your SG

Well, the SG is probably my favorite guitar. It's quite versatile. I've owned about 10 in my lifetime, and have regrets about selling them. No matter what
other guitar I've tried or owned, I always come back to the SG. I strap it on and it feels like...home....or my own bed...just really comfortable.

Re: show off your SG

its here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

epiphone limited edition custom shop 2006 G-400 custom with maestro tremolo arctic white finish.

i love it i never played and sg other than in stores and this jsut feels great really nice neck gleaming hardware perfect finish and just the best thing i have played ever i think i have found my guitar, the pickups are a bit muddy but thats to be expected on epiphone stock pickups no matter im planning to change those to some sort of burstbucker or SD pickup i would try some WB ickups but i don't know how i would get some over to australia. over all i wouldnt trade this for anything exept the same model by gibson the craftmanship on this guitar matches gibson and the tremolo works great i cant wait to try it out next and get some new pups in it.

i hardly look at my lp's now (all epi's which leave allot to be desired) but i guess this can kind of qualify me for this forum its got les paul custom engraved on the truss rod cover and the neck plate.

heres some pic's
