Re: Metallers: Jackson or Ibanez

I tried to get a Horizon FR-II at the same time as I got the NT-II, but ESP didn't want to bring one over to the states. Bummer.

Here is a friends FR-II

And while I'm at it, here are my other ESPs:

Re: Metallers: Jackson or Ibanez

That's my #2, a Les Paul Standard Limited Edition. Just like Alex has, except mine doesn't burst much. Just a little bit near the top.

(#1 is the clownburst 78 LPS 2 guitars above it)

Re: Metallers: Jackson or Ibanez

I think mine is darker. Any pic I take seems darker than any other pic I see people post. I don't mind, I like the deep blue. I'd also like to get one of the Cayanne finish ones too.

Re: Metallers: Jackson or Ibanez

One of my favorite Jacksons is actually an import Charvel, the 750XL. 24-3/4" scale like a LP, carved maple top, thick mahogany body. Kind of a hybrid of a Jackson Soloist and a Les Paul.

Re: Metallers: Jackson or Ibanez

Charvel/Jackson all the way for me, I played them non stop in the 80's and early 90's. Seems like every time I turned around I was getting a new one. I still have a dozon or so left over. I have a crazy ass Ibanez 7 string as well with a cool ass swirl paint job that I never play, what am I saying, I have about 30 guitars I never play..

1985 San Dimas Charvel Warren DeMartini Blood Drip & 2007 Custom Shop Warren DeMartini Crossed Swords

1990 Ibanez Universe Steve Vai

1992 Jackson Randy Rhoads PCS LTD seriel # 0008

San Dimas Charvel

Custom Shop Charvel

Just to name a small few....

Re: Metallers: Jackson or Ibanez

The last one is a new Custom Shop version of my original 1985 Charvel that I had for years and finaly it was so beat I buried it in my Dads back yard. The Floyd studs were pulled out several times, the neck pocket was cracked (bad), headstock repaired (twice), fretboard had a crack in it and she was beat.

Re: Metallers: Jackson or Ibanez

Sorry I don't have up close pics but my Kramer Barreta was made for metal or hard core rock. It's got a Warmoth neck with graduating fret board and a Seymour Duncan P.A.F. pup. It's also different from the usual Barreta in that somehow this guitar's body was made from maple, not basswood as they were originally intended. This is a fact because when I first read about this mix up at the Kramer plant I thought what a bunch of hogwash until about 16 years ago I got in a band where the other guitarist had the same year Barreta (85 different color) that I had. We both were like cool, we have the same guitar until we played each others guitar and what a shock it was. His weighed in at a little over 8 pounds and mine is 10 pounder!!! And quite a difference in tone to. This frickin guitar sustains forever!!!

Re: Metallers: Jackson or Ibanez

If you are looking for an Ibanez, may want to check out the Heartfield by Fender Talon series guitars. Made in the same factory (Fuji Gen Gakki), real Floyds, Dimarzios, and can still be found for dirt because nobody remembers them.

I went for Jackson due to poll limits but I do agree a metal guitar does not have to be pointy...

Sorry about the crap picture... can't find any better at the moment but here's a pick of my trans blue Kelly loaded with SDs

Ahh the Kelley. I always liked that guitar. I'm surprised nobody mentioned B.C. Rich. I used to work there in the last couple of years they were in So. El Monte. We had dudes there who came over from Charvel/Jackson San Dimas, Fender Corona, and even Wayne Charvel was a partner of Bernie Rico's.

They make the Warlock, Ironbird and other pointy guitars, but, they also made the Bich and Mockingbird.

Yep BC Rich would in my mind probably be thee stereotypical "Metallers" guitar... they have some far out "pointy" designs for sure... but for me my fav BC Rich has to be the mockingbird... it speaks elegance IMO (of course I have one )
