EVH Replica ... sorta ;)

This one was built using an all mahogany body, a Musikraft maple neck, Dimarzio "Tone Zone", and a Floyd Rose tremolo.

Thanks for looking.

Re: EVH Replica ... sorta ;)

Nice, looks great! How much did it cost?

I can see some people lining up to tell you about how it is illegal to put the Gibson logo on and about how it may obviously not be a Gibson to us but 9 year olds on ebay won't know.

I guess you have to be an EvH fan to "get it".

I didn't mean cost as in I thought you went to a store, I meant for parts.

I wasn't talking cost at all ... I was speaking of the Gibson logo.

Is that something EVH had?

PS: I think it's a wonderful build.

WoW! ... I thought this was common knowledge!

I did a quick Google search and came up with this ...

"Van Halen 1

Obviously the guitar best well known for this album is the original Black and White Frankenstrat. This heavily valued guitar started out life as a $130.00, factory second, fire wood, neck and body which Eddie bought from a company called Boogie Bodies. He took it home and immediately sprayed it black with a can of Schwinn bicycle paint. He also made a pickguard for it. Eddie loved the sound of an old PAF. humbucker, so he chiseled a hunk of wood out of the body so the pickup could fit. He also liked the strat tremolo but had trouble keeping it in tune. He installed a brass nut, had to keep it lubricated, and turned the ball end of the string in sync with the turning of the machine head as he tuned the instrument. The guitar ended up getting the stripe pattern as he masked off the guitar and sprayed white, keeping only what he wanted to be black.

Today's Pickup manufacturers all offer some type of pickup that they call their EVH Clone. Ed Roman has done extensive research on this and offers several different versions with his kits.

Interesting Footnote: The CBS strat headstock has a Gibson logo, and the very fine black stripes are actually electrical tape. Today Eddie's pickups are custom wound. Contact Ed Roman for Custom Wound duplicates or get the special Tom Holmes pickups that emulate the 50's PAF."

The above paragraph was taken from: Eddie Van Halen - Van Halen

You can do your own research and find the same info practically anywhere.
One of the most important aspects of building a replica is doing the research.
Of course, mine is not 100% "accurate" ... I added some of my own preferences like painting all of the stripes, the Floyd trem and the mahogany body. The pinstripes on the original guitar were tape, the tremolo was a vintage style and the body was made from Northern Ash.

Re: EVH Replica ... sorta ;)

Probably... It was a Squier of some sort for sure (based on the neck plate). I picked it up last year for as a self-birthday present. It's a hardtail, which suits my playing style more, and it felt and played well. For $125, I couldn't resist it.

I had it home about an hour and a half (when that pic was taken) before I replaced the neck with a nice, thick '70s ESP blank face strat style neck I had lying around. Now the thing is VERY resonant and that neck just makes it feel like "home" to me. It's also gotten much more worn as it's become the "throw it in the trunk and take it to a jam" guitar. Normally, I'd be more concerned with it's condition, but in this case, it fits the spirit of the guitar. I'm a bit more careful with it now, as it seems to never go out of tune. Stability like that I don't want to mess with.

The next step is to yank out the (almost obnoxiously high output) "Designed by" SD pickup, and put in an SD custom custom I have in the parts box.

I listed it as a "free" guitar but only if the buyer used "Buy It Now".
If a bidder chooses to place a bid, then the "Buy It Now" option goes away and so does the offer for the "free" guitar.
And that's exactly what happened.

Fortunately, the "free guitar" offer gained some attention and I recieved several emails after the bid was placed, so the guitar is no longer available.

Wolfgangs are great guitars. I keep coming back to my purple hardtail and can't get over how good it is.
