Talking Favorite Acoustic Guitar Strings

What's your favorite brand of strings for an acoustic guitar?

D'Adarrio? Elixir? Ernie Ball? Gibson? Etc..

also, i'd like to know of some 'undiscovered' brands.. (you know.. the type that's really really awesome just not as commercialized / not as popular )

i'd love to hear from ya guys

Re: Favorite Acoustic Guitar Strings

I used to use GHS all the time.
For about a year I've been using Webstrings Home - Guitar Strings - Electric Guitar Strings - Acoustic Guitar Strings -Bass Strings - Mandolin Strings - Banjo Strings
Great strings for the money.(Probably made for them by GHS.)

Re: Favorite Acoustic Guitar Strings

I use these on my Taylor T5... light enough guage for an electric guitarist
that doesn't like the heavier feel of traditional acoustic guitar strings.

right now, im using the EJ 17's.. it's kinda-ish (:rofl) thick for me

i think next time, i'll try a lighter gauge (probably the EJ16's) OR try a new brand altogether

(P.S. i don't smoke )

Re: Favorite Acoustic Guitar Strings

I've chopped and changed a bit over my years of acoustic playing. My style's a bit percussive, but not too aggressive. Started off exclusively with D'Addario EJ16s, then last year tried Martin Phosphor Bronze (life wasn't good on them), Elixir Nanowebs (sounded great but I broke a string after 4 weeks, which was disappointing considering the reputation they have) and Ernie Ball Slinky 12-54s (which I pretty much have settled on for now - lifespan's reasonably good and they have a very acceptable tone).

It's tough enough getting any mid-range out of a Taylor...trying to get it using a set of .10's I would think impossible.

True, I've noticed that on some Taylors as well. However, with the T5 I haven't had a problem - just tweak the bass and treble controls on the guitar or the settings on the Tech 21 SansAmp Acoustic DI that I run it thru and I'm good to go.

Not too bad considering it is a thinline body, with not nearly as much room inside for the sound to build/amplify. The T5 was really made to be played plugged in. I would never say it will give you the traditional "acoustic" sound as real as the real thing.

I wasn't talking about electrified on stage I was talking about acoustically in a room just playing on your lap...never like the taylors because of that.

I used to have a decent Ovation acoustic/electric but let's just say that it's round back and my 'um, er' "round" front didn't fit so well together (it would roll upwards over my belly until it felt more like I was playing a dobro!)

Sound-wise the Ovation had a "fuller" sound when played unplugged (deeper body = fuller sound). But I like the sound of the Taylor when plugged in just fine. I've noticed a lot of contemporary Christian artist are using the T5 in performance... I think that is because it is a good cross between an electric and an acoustic guitar. The sounds you get out of it are more like a Dave Mathews sound than a traditional acoustic.
