Re: Bad Ass Gretsch's! Post em if you got em!
Sweet! Im not really a fan of that guitar but everyman to his own!
I played a White (rare now) Electromatic today. Not very impressed, light Living End/Chris Cheney tone, all up pretty crappy. Id buy it if it was offered very cheaply, or if I win it in that Video Hits Comp hehe.

Re: Bad Ass Gretsch's! Post em if you got em!
I love the Orange Gretschs. Everytime I go to guitar center I've got to grab the 6120. Its not for my type of music, but it just looks so damn cool.

Re: Bad Ass Gretsch's! Post em if you got em!
Oops, sorry to get everyone so excited, but I actually grab the 5120 when I got to GC, which is the made in Korea version for about $599.00.
But I still love playing that guitar. I've never seen a $3000+ Gretsch in real life. Someday.

Played another one of them today. Better, still, I think you'd need to aim high to get that "real" Gretsch sound.

Re: Bad Ass Gretsch's! Post em if you got em!
I really like my 61' Corvette. These were Gretsch's response to the Jr's but they never really caught on. After 61 they changed the shape of the horns to go after the SG's to produce yet another failed attempt at a Gibson killer. All in all a kick ass guitar that has never let me down at a gig.

Re: Bad Ass Gretsch's! Post em if you got em!
Well, the OP is looking for the big boats, but all he's gettin is solid bodies. I will continue to disappoint him. Here's Gretsch's latest entry in the LP Junior/Special-killer division, a Special Jet. Flat-top mahogany with DeArmond 2000 pickups:

Re: Bad Ass Gretsch's! Post em if you got em!
Thats gotta be a lawsuit in waiting. That has the exact shape of a LP....And Gibson have sued for less..

Quote:
Gibson would get their ass handed to them if they sued Gretsch for that. First, a Jet is not the exact same shape as an LP. Second, Gretsch has made guitars with the Jet shape for over 40 years at least, so even if Gretsch were making a singlecut that was exactly the same shape as an LP (which they're not), Gretsch would have a good defense that Gibson had waived or abandoned any claim against the Jet design. Third, the only similarity between the Special Jet and an LP is that they're both singlecuts. The headstock is Gretch's humpback, which they're used for years. The pots are in a 2-pot master system instead of an LP's 4-pot layout. The knobs are Gretsch's knurled knobs with the Gretsch G/arrow trademark on them, the pickguard is Gretsch's teardrop which has been in use for years also. The pickups are singlecoils, not humbuckers. The inlays are Gretsch's thumbnail ones rather than dots, traps, or blocks. In short, the only thing the 2 guitars have in common is that they're singlecuts. Gibson tried sueing PRS over their singlecut, which was much more similar to an LP than the Special Jet is. Although a trial court initially agreed with Gibson, the judge was either simply a heavy Gibson devotee (Gibson brought the suit in Tennesse where they are located) or totally incompetent as a jurist. The decision was promptly overturned on appeal. |

You might like this one. She's a 79 hollow bod. I wasn't playing her to often so I let her go recently. To fund new guitars of course. ![]()
