Re: Bad Ass Gretsch's! Post em if you got em!
Would you ever consider selling your 1999? They dont make them like that anymore, so many different versions.

Re: Bad Ass Gretsch's! Post em if you got em!
How's this for a nice Gretsch... it's the real deal from the 60's. I just got to play on it last
week while visiting a good buddy of mine who has a pretty impressive guitar collection... ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Bad Ass Gretsch's! Post em if you got em!
Sorry, not at this time. Funny you picked that one. The 99 Falcon is actually the one I play the most! It was owned by Jimmy Vivino before me and his guitar tech had already done all the mods that I would have done like TV Jones pups, abr-1, upgraded electronics, and a super fret job using 6105s. Most Gretsches have vintage size fretwire so this one feels totally different on the neck. The neck feels wide and flat, although it is the exactly the same width as the other Falcon.

Ah thats pretty much what I want, TV Classics and all.
Do normal Falcons are smaller frets or something?

Re: Bad Ass Gretsch's! Post em if you got em!
Yeah, most of the Gretsch line has vintage type frets....thin and not particularly tall. Medium jumbo frets can be found on the Gretsch Black Phoenix (Brian Setzer's take on the Falcon), as well as the Horton Heat signature 6120 and also the new Power Jet. There may be a few others as well, but for the most part, Gretsches have vintage frets. Some people like the vintage frets. I can deal with them, but if I had a choice, I'd take a somewhat larger fret.

Re: Bad Ass Gretsch's! Post em if you got em!
use to have a tennessee rose but after a while i still couldn't get pass the fake f holes. My wife would even make fun of me because it had fake f holes. Wish had the Rose back. Painted F holes and all. Anyway, is Fender still making those US made Gretschs. How do they compare with the regular ones?

Re: Bad Ass Gretsch's! Post em if you got em!
To say I love Gretsch is a pretty huge understatement. So here's a sampling of Gretsches I own. They come in and go out all the time. Matter of fact, in 4 hours I might be the owner of a 1959 6120. We'll see. I've also owned a 1958 Anniversary, and an old '62 Country Club, etc. So there's a lot besides these few pictures, but these are my favorites. We'll start with the best and go down:
This beautiful guitar is the only one in the world. It's a 1938 Gretsch Prototype Synchromatic. It's got the body and trim of a 1933-1937 Synchro, and the hardware from their early 40s Synchro line (the 400's). It's also got a headstock inlay unlike anything you've ever seen. I won't bore you all too much, but here's my retirement fund: ![]() ![]() ![]() Alright now here's my babies. My 2003 'Error' Duo Jet, my 1955 Gretsch Electromatic 6161, and one of my Americanas. The Duo Jet is weird - it's one of the very first rolled out of the Terada factory since Fender took over, and as such it's still got the old headstock and the old electronic scheme (tone knobs instead of useless mud switch), AND the humped block inlays, but with the new pickups and better quality throughout. The 1955 amp is sold, but MAN she was fun! I bought her broken this year (on Super Bowl Sunday) for $150, and fixed her. In April, I (sadly) sold her for $1200. So damn cool! The Americana was $99, and worth every cent. I've not played many cooler acoustics. ![]() Here's another Gretsch I own that I'm posting a pic of just because it's such a cool guitar! Want an SG type Gretsch, with Bigsby and Power'Trons and all? Well this is for you! Man I love this one.

VERY nice Andy! That's awesome. 6120DSW?
I just got this about 2 days ago, 1958 Anniversary. Not a reissue, 100% original. Pretty cool! |

Re: Bad Ass Gretsch's! Post em if you got em!
Yeah it's a DSW.
Whoa, thats a super sweet annie, I love those. I've had two vintage annies actually. Just love that two-tone green. The double is a -64 and the single is a -61. |
