My Ibanez finally arrived!! (PICS INSIDE)

My RX750 finally arrived and I couldnt wait to post some pics of the lady
First though I ran to my guitar guy and bought a hardcase for her.
Ok the facts to start with. It's as I said an IbanezRX750, made in 1994, the only year these babies were made.
Oh yeah, as you can see from he serial at the back of the headstock it'S an MIJ
It's a 3 piece padauk/honduras mahogany/padauk 3-piece body, with a natural finish.
The neck is a one-piece-easy-access maple neck (as far as I know the only RX ever to have that neck) with 21 frets and locking tuners on the headstock.
The nut is not plastic, which was a pleasant surprise, the feel and coulour point rather to graphite.
As far as I know the pups are a V7/S2/V8 combo, with the bridge pickup splitable by raising the back tone-knob.
The pickguard is a 2-layer white mother of pearl pickguard and looks amazing!
Ehrm, thats about it for now, and now to the pictures

Re: My Ibanez finally arrived!! (PICS INSIDE)

Yeah I had to leave the room and have a smoke when I got it out of the bubblewrap mountain it was packed in, that's how excited I was!
The guitar has almost never been played in it's 14 years, my guitar-shop guy said I was lucky, I should have paid more than double of what I did

Re: My Ibanez finally arrived!! (PICS INSIDE)

THAT is a dead sexy guitar! Congratulations from another Ibby fanatic! How's that neck compare to Wizards or Wizard II's?

I wonder how that pickup combo sounds in that M/P/M body? I've got a basswood RG with the same pickups and while they sounded pretty good, I ended up replacing the HB's with an EVO and PAF Joe. The S2 is really sweet in the mid position, tho

Re: My Ibanez finally arrived!! (PICS INSIDE)

Well, since that is my first Ibanez, I have only my Epi to compare it to, and I must say that neck is a whole different world.
The wizzard II is a little flatter and wider from what I can remember, and a little easier to play, but the difference is not that big, at least to a beginner like me. Don't know how it compares when you're shredding like mad
As far as the pups go, the sound is quite nice and warm, I will be considering changing the HB's to Dimarzio's though.
But I still have to figure out what exactly I want
All in all the guitar is way more than I expected it to be, much more worth than the 300 euro I paid for it imho.
For me, that guitar is 100% a keeper :P

Nice, My G&L Has a Similar tremolo bar!

I like the pickguard also, kind of like the Vai model.

Re: My Ibanez finally arrived!! (PICS INSIDE)

Yeah I like the simplistic looking tremolo, plus so far it stays in tune very well!
And any other pickguard would make the guitar look like less I think :P

After some research I read that the evo HB is much taller than the V8 and I would have to enlarge the cavity for it to fit, does anyone have any info on this? I am considering replacing the HB's but I'm damned if I'm gonna put anything sharp close to this guitar..
Thnx

Re: My Ibanez finally arrived!! (PICS INSIDE)

sweet! shes a beaut! I have a 7 string ibanez... Its one of the low end models, I got it off ebay for 150 shipped I put DiMarzio D Activators and 1 meg pots in it, along with a few custom touches to the appearance... Ibanez makes really good stuff, this is an entry level guitar and has a solid alder body, so they dont skimp... I really like yours! Enjoy it and put it to good use

No, there is no difference in size - this is the same exact swap I did. Just make sure you get an F-Spaced pickup for the bridge if you do replace it.

Re: My Ibanez finally arrived!! (PICS INSIDE)

Yeah I mailed Dimarzio directly asking about this subject and what pups would be best for me, and they emailed me richt back after half an hour (now that's fast). This was the reply:

I do not know if your information about the depth of the pickup cavity is correct. I have attached a diagram showing the dimensions of our F-spaced humbuckers, which should be of assistance. The V7 and V8 are not high-output pickups, and it would be wise not to change to louder pickups if you want to avoid a muddy tone. You might try an F-spaced Norton (DP160F) in the bridge position and an F-spaced PAF Joe (DP213F) in the neck position. Neither pickup should pose any problems in terms of height.

So I think I will go with the Norton on the bridge after all.
P.S. If anyone is interested in the diagramm, let me know

I'm interested in it. I have a couple of RG550s with V7/V8 config that I'm looking to upgrade the pickups on...

Thanks,
Shane

As soon as I can manage to get the F spaced gold top Dimarzios here in Europe I'll change them too, but these babies are damn hard to get here

Re: My Ibanez finally arrived!! (PICS INSIDE)

The PAF Joe's warm and sweet in the neck position but still crisp with great string definition. You'll like it
