Re: The 2010 UK MLP International Fete (Meet)

Update:

I've PMed all the UK members that I know of. A total of 36. I could not get a PM through to three members: The Trooper, Flight and std80, so if they read this, please let me know if you wish to attend. I've also PMed three members in the States who expressed an interest, so let's hope one or more can make it.

I've also put a reminder thread in the Backstage area for anyone who might not have picked up on the meeting next year.

Things are moving folks, and when I get all the PM replies in, Phil and I can move to making final preparations for next May.

Keep checking in to this thread.

Re: The 2010 UK MLP International Fete (Meet)

John & Phil:

I mentioned to the wifey that I was invited to play at the renowned "Bridport Music Festival". She expressed some enthusiasm about this adventure (though she did declare a bullshit alert - she's heard me play!). We were last in the UK in October 2008, so it's about time to return. It is always best if I can make arrangements around a business trip to Lloyd's, so I must get back with you. Don't count us out or in at this point, but we are anxious to give it a go. May is our preference, as well.

Back to you shortly.

Great! No obligation to play. Part of the whole thing will be the social side.

For you, and others who read this, it's looking like 22nd May at present. Will confirm after I've spoken to Phil the fluter again.

This is a good date. And for the record, I still plan on attending, if that's alright. So no more fecking PMs asking if I plan on attending then, aye? Just kidding, gentleman. Anytime.

Have we got an idea of how many colonials are in fact returning to the motherland for this very special rendezvous? Not that it will have any impact on my attending, to be clear. Just curious is all.

Thanks for all the effort, Phil and John in putting this all together. This is indeed a big deal will no doubt be a great success.

Re: The 2010 UK MLP International Fete (Meet)

Spoke to Phil (Mister Pastry) earlier tonight, and he's going to the venue tomorrow to check that 22nd May is OK with them. Should be, hopefully, given how far in advance it is.

Von Bek,
At the moment it is you plus one other colonial, with another yet to be able to say yea or nay. It will be great to hear the Yankee twang alongside the Scouse snarl and the south of England girlie accent of Phil!

Hey, y'all. The wifey gives the event two thumbs up. I still have some planning to do, but it looks very promising. Guess I'll get a lesson or two from my buddy Willie Nelson...

OK, listen up everybody. That fuckwit that goes by the name of Phil47, you know, the one who's arse is marginally more intelligent than the grey matter between his ears, has now told me he will TELEPHONE the venue during the week to finalise details of the date.

See what I have to work with, peoples? See what I have to work with! If I had a luger... (name that film).

Re: The 2010 UK MLP International Fete (Meet)

2010 UK meet, News Update

Ok.. Spoke to the owner today and all Saturday's in May are booked as obviously it's a busy music venue and slots fill up quickly in advance.

Any of these dates sound any good though.

May.2010.. 2nd May...Sun.
...............14th May...Fri
...............21st.May...Fri
...............28th May...Fri

I'm easy on any of these days, but I don't know about the rest of you.
If it's got to be a Saturday, then we'll have to put it back till Autumn.
If you could all give me a yeah or nay as soon as possible I'll book it.

I got round the financial side of things by doing a deal with Simon.

We pay say £30 each and included in that is a meal laid on for everyone and enough to pay the sidemen we'll need for the evening. That way he doesn't need to pay a band and all he has to worry about is the profit he's getting from the food and drinks.. He's happy with that arrangement and he'll throw in the publicity on line too for us. Can't be a bad deal.

So lets' just say we have 25 people. 25 x £30 = £750. Deduct say £180 for the sidemen. Bass player, drummer and keyboards (if we need one). That leaves £570. Let's say we ask him to lay on a buffet for a price that includes bottles of wine etc, or use any left as a float for beer.

Jesus aren't you people lucky. I don't drink and when I do a 1/2-pint lasts me about an hour. Vasco only eats French fries, so one large plate of those should keep him quite, which leaves more money for food and drink for you lot.

Obviously if we were to get say 50 people coming, we could bring the price down and say pay £15 each and still have the same amount of cash for the sidemen and meal., so obviously the more the better.

Mutter Slater from Stackridge said he'd come down and join in with the merry throng and I'll see if Tom Compton and Mick Hawksworth can make it.

It should be a great night, so please let me know as soon as possible some attendance numbers, so as to get an idea of how much we have to play with re food and sidemen.

Over to you Vasco...

Re: The 2010 UK MLP International Fete (Meet)

To add to Phil's post above.

2nd May and 28th May are part of the early and late May bank holidays, so are best avoided for travelling reasons. I would suggest 21st May.

A lot of PM replies to me were 'flexible' regarding the date. I will send another round of PMs asking 14th or 21st May this evening.

I think Phil's idea re laying down a sum of money each to pay for a meal & the musicians' labourers is a good one. All told, most are likely to spend that much in the evening anyway.

We're getting closer to setting this thing up...!

Y'all pick the date. If lodging is scarce, we can stay somewhere else and train/motor into town. We will base in London. How long to Bridport by train?

There should be some others coming from London, hopefully, so between now and then maybe some 'networking' regarding joint travelling can be done?

Aside from that, maybe Phil can dig out the best way out to Bridport by the rail network.

London Waterloo to Axminster probably. Bridport is about a 15min bus ride along the coast road from Axminster, as there is no station in Bridport.
I'll do some more checking though.
Perhaps if enough people are coming down at the same time from say London we could hire a mini bus from the station..
London to Axminster is about 3 hours by train.

Also if any of you are interested, the landlord of the pub Simon says he might be able to do some deals with local bed and breakfast hotels.
Hey and if any Yanks want to stop on the way back to London either by train or road, you can get off at Salisbury and see Stonehenge. By car you will see it from the road, but you won't by train.

A303 road down to Dorset and view of Stonehenge ( For the Yanks )

You mean this place? I've driven there before from London. So, I could probably rent a car and motor to the Guitar Extravaganza.
(I was driver for this entire group of wimins for 10 days!)

Re: The 2010 UK MLP International Fete (Meet)

Big Dawg,

Next May, either on Friday 14th or Friday 21st, there will be a get-together of MLP members in Bridport in Dorset. Phil47 is organising the venue and backing musicians, and will be looking into the local accommodation available also. I have been contacting UK MLP members that I know of, but have asked others to let me know of any in case I have not picked up on them. Given the signals received so far, there should be some USA members coming over for the event also.

So, two things:
1. If you want to attend, great! Just let me know your preferred day; and
2. If you know of any other UK members on here (not the loonies like drudeboy, Cookie-Boy & snaredrum, I'm onto them!), then drop me a PM, or post their names up here, and I'll contact them.

The intent is to have a big 'jam session' night as well as a shit-hot social evening.

So there it is. Come back to me as to whether you can make it or not.
