UK Meet 2012

The third anual MLP/"censored forum name" meet takes place over the weekend 25th and 26th May 2012 at Bridport in Dorset. This has been a hugely succesfull event, tremendous fun and a real joy to be part of. We welcome all members to the gig whether you wish to play or not! As ever, Vasco will be MC and Phil47UK will organise and recruit the tightest rhythm section in the South.

Come on down and talk guitars, play guitars and sink a few pints with some MLP "living legends"!!!

Any members wishing to attend are welcome to cantact me here at MLP via the messaging service and I will offer accomodation options etc etc but most of us crash at the Bridport Arms Hotel in West Bay, however, there are loads of options locally at reasonable prices. I know it is still five months off but these places get booked up quick!

All ages and abilities are welcomed and encouraged and there is a part of the evening on the last night set aside just for the youngsters.

Anyone travelling from overseas will be helped with pick ups and transport as we have done for other "Johnny Foreigners" over the past three years.

Bridport and the surrounding area are part of our Jurrasic Coast heritage and is a stunningly beautiful part of the UK.

Come over and I can guarantee you'll have a blast!

Cheers!

If my guitar ever turns up I may try and combine this with the annual family trip to Dorset...

For those of you who were not at this year's event and haven't seen them at "the other place", here's a couple of links to the photos I took:

Bridport 2011 Day 2 pictures by chrisgyro - Photobucket

A great time was had by all, and it would be great to see some new faces next time.

I think, Mac, that he may be alluding to the fact that next May I will be bringing a special present for Phil, given that he reaches a 'certain' age just before the meet (work out what the '47' is in his name, and work it up to 2012...).

You may be able to procure a lift if someone is heading down your way. Cuthbert Griswald was picked up in a lay-by at the side of the road this year...! True!

Stories of the events are already legion. The first year, everyone pissed off for the evening and left Frankie in a car park...!

But Frankie never kept a dollar past sunset, anyway...

We didn't mean to! A mishap!
We were waiting in the cabs waiting for Frankie to come out of the hotel..then someone told the drivers all was present and we could go, so we did.
Got to the curry house and as Cookie sat down I asked where was Frankie. He said, I thought he was in your cab, I said no..we were told he was in your cab. Cookie went Oh *#&$& and ran out the door to jump in a cab to go and get him.

The look on Cookie's face I still remember Frankie took it well though.

Aha, so the real reason he didn't come this year was because he'd developed an incurable fear of abandonement?

Two friends of mine are having babies this month, but they'll leave their wives at home and go snowboarding with me in January. Just sayin'

Come on Leon, you promised us in May you'll go on stage next year.

Tell that mutha to show up early enough so you can make it, Leon!

We'd be missing you!

(Or was it all a plan so you wouldn't have to go onstage? )

after billy no-mates I've been looking forward to jamming with Leon, great phrasing, great out-of-phase tone!

I hardly saw my first two after they were born through the gaggle of women constantly - sisters, aunties, friends, - it went on for weeks :-D

Re: UK Meet 2012

Hi all.
OK. With regard next years UK meet in May.
Firstly I’d like to know just who is thinking of attending, because as you know, it falls on my head whether or not we can drum up enough members to A-: Fill up playing times and B-: Generate enough money to pay the musicians.
Last year we held the venue over a two day event, but I’m seriously beginning to wonder if just one day would suffice instead of two.
Last year much of the audience consisted of locals who had heard of the event via publicity in local papers etc and parents and relations of young pupils who had come to see their child perform.

Since last May though, it seems we have had some bickering and fallouts amongst members and already one member who attended last year has PM’d Cookie and myself to take him off the list for next May.

I am extremely fond of all you guys, but you must appreciate I really don’t have the time to mediate in flame wars and who’s on who’s side, who’s right and who’s wrong etc and have to deal with these meets at a professional level to ensure everything runs smoothly.
For me, it’s not just an excuse for a weekend down by the sea in the sun to have a few beers, chill out and play a few songs. I have to ensure all the house musicians are clued up re numbers and keys. Make sure the PA and gear is set up and running . Keep the evening running smoothly and sort out finances, payment and publicity etc.

Last May the PA went arse upwards half way through the evening, which meant I had to drive like crazy to Mutters house and pick up a new PA head. And even after everyone had gone, remained at the venue with my wife breaking down and loading up the gear to take home. We got to bed around 4am..
Now I certainly don’t mind doing all this, including a BBQ at my house to ensure everyone has a great time, but you must understand I need to have something concrete to work on and am really not in the slightest bit interested in bitch fights and who’s on who’s side. Who might come, who might not … I aint getting any younger you know..
So kind people, If you could kindly get in touch with Vasco, or Cookie and let them know your plans, it would greatly help in ensuring we have another great event.

If it all gets too nebulous and not enough people are showing interest or bickering like a bunch of old fish wives, I will have no alternative by next spring other than to pull the plug on the whole event which would be a pity as I know many of you are genuinely looking forward to it.

Also as a foot note Cookie really put himself out last year in booking accommodation for members and in some cases even footing the booking fee deposits himself.
I suggest that for next years meet people wanting to attend and rent accommodation ( Hotel whatever ) send Cookie the booking fee deposit in advance, as we really can’t expect him to shell out for rooms out of his own pocket when someone at the last minute suddenly decides not to turn up, or says they can’t come.
Obviously if there is a genuine reason and enough notice is given, I’m sure Cookie might be able to get a refund from the hotel .

If anyone has any questions, please either PM myself, Cookie or Vasco.

Thanks.

Phil.
