Hey, The dirty South and Decoration day are would both be a great choice to start with.

The Dirty South may be the one.

Hey TWANG, i've been seeing your name more and more as I started to dig into information regarding amp mods. Can I direct your attention to a thread regarding the standby switch on the Blackhearts? I've found a 'schematic' and was wondering if it were that easy to install a 3-way switch into my amp. Also, whether it's really worth it or not. Thanks!!

You can get a good fender out of the vj.. but it's still class a single ended and not push pull.
The 5E3 has a big low end, for example. It can even be a problem, farting out majorly, when building.
A pair of 6V6s compared to one EL84, again, advantage fender there.
The tweeds have pretty loud cleans, way different break up, hugely good dynamics.
The VJs have fewer cleans, a generally thinner sound, but more overdrive.. in fact I like the master volume to help tame that a bit.

Twang - I have been doing some research on having a 5e3 or 5f1 amp chassis. Yesterday I cranked up my bitmo modded Valve Jr. With the 10 watt attenuator the VJ really sounds great! My question is have you ever put a modded VJ up against a 5e3 or Champ? I'm wondering how similar they might be.
