Gday mate, would like your thoughts on the custom I am having made, I'm chasing the most tonefull , sustaining, and resonant LP ever so I have hand chosen a one piece tas blackwood body, one piece tiger myrtle top, and one piece blackwood neck with gidgee fretboard, pickups are burstbucker 1 and 3 in respective positions, and the build will be done by the Gibson custom shop. My tone wood supplier and some luthiers of note, say it will ring like a churchbell, your thoughts please. Any input greatly appreciated, thanks

    Hello

I need to ask about amps and tubes.
My Peavey Windsor Studio (a combo) hums and make some noise when i use the stock EL34 a JJ tube which came with the amp and it´s been played since june 2009.
I´ve got a JJ KT88 and a Ruby 6L6GC and the amp doesn´t get close to the hum of the EL34, could the EL34 be bad?
The preamp tubes are 2 JJ ECC83.
So do you think i should get a new EL34 tube?

    Kindest regards,
    Gustav

Thanks so much for taking the time. Given the rarity of them, I just won't know until I try. "You pays your money and you takes your chances."

My gut tells me I'm going to roll the dice, but there's no hurry and I'll be sleeping on it for a few nights.

    Thanks again.

Greatly appreciated, Splatts. At the risk of being a pest, one last question (promise): Does that voltage control have honest potential to produce good "tone" at 2 watts? I realize it can't be the same as at 20 watts, but can it be good, with honest power valve breakup?

Hey, if I thought you cared one schnitz for my USA swill, I'd ship you a case of beer. And there's always the finest whiskey ever made (ignore the Brits' claims, they're hooie):

The Ivan is what I would get. I've read and, to some extent understood, enough of your posts to value your opinion as to this claim; it's the crucial factor:

"At one extreme, Ivan can be turned down to a total output of 2 Watts for bedroom practice. Turning the control all the way up sets Ivan to run at its maximum of 20 Watts RMS. The Voltage control is not a master volume, but it is what a master volume should be: consistent sound, variable loudness."

Thanks, Splatts. That's the smallest they've got, so if that "Variac" doesn't work as advertised, I've got no business even thinking about one. I should just go "non-booteek" or look at something like the ultra-low-wattage Carrs.
