Yeah, frets are level with only a tiny bit of wear. It is soaking up a good dose of lemon oil now and I'll give it some more in an hour, right before I put the new strings on it. It needs some moisture in the body too so I've found my old humidifier and it is ready to go into the case tonight. I'll let you know how it is once it has had a couple of days to soak up oil and moisture!

I picked up that A&L today. It badly needs some TLC as the bridge and fretboard are so dry that they are almost white and the strings don't look like they've been changed in years! But if I spend a couple of hours cleaning it up and applying lemon oil to it, everything should be fine.

It looks like myself and the guy selling one of the acoustics you alerted me to might finally be able to synch up our schedules this weekend. He has dropped his price to $100 so, providing there are no structural issues (the fretboard and bridge badly need some lemon oil and I expect the guitar hasn't been humidified in a while), I will grab it. I was going to grab a new amp first but the builder I was talking to here is having some health issues so that is on hold. I am now looking at one of the Ibanez Tube Screamer amps but the one I want is on back order for at least another month so I figure I might as well grab the acoustic now and worry about the amp once it is more readily available.

Here is the guitar you had alerted me to:

    Guitar for sale

I'll pop into my L&M location tomorrow to grab a used hard case from them so that I have it when I go see the guitar.

Ideally the guitar would be in the exact same spot standing as it is sitting. Where you take the strap and adjust it so it feels snug sitting, then tighten a teeny bit more (to account for the guitar weight.)
Then when you stand the guitar is in a perfect position and you can play fine.
But most people don't want to strap their guitars "high." Because it doesn't look cool.
So you try to find a happy medium.

The basic chord is really only played on the third, fourth, and fifth strings. You can put your little finger on the first string to get a 5th in there, or flatten your ring finger to add a 9th (and the fifth). For an A, I like to leave the fifth string open and fret the sixth with my thumb. In E, it's the basis for the 7#9 (Hendrix) chord, which is how I stumbled into all of the other cool chords you can make with it, with very little effort (in my case, by making mistakes ).

    My pleasure.

Really? I find that particular chord about the easiest on the board (sloppy C shape with no attempt to fret the second string, index finger on the fourth string). I use it in almost everything I play.

Good on ya, regardless. If you light the fire under just one kid, you've done something highly commendable.

After I learned those licks in A, I learned them in E. I couldn't do the same shuffle lick in B, so I turned around with a C-shaped B7. I was on cloud nine after only a few lessons. I still milk both, transposing songs I want to perform, but can't play well in the "correct" key, to A or E.
