The wood used for Historics is a definitely better... I guess if you have a Strat that you like Strats? I've had an American Standard Strat for nine years and haven't been able to really bond with it.. I'm just not a Fender guy, but my suggestion would be to keep the Paul. Upgrade it or whatever, and dump the Strat + some cash for an R8.

Unless you REALLY love that Strat.

That shit said, it really comes down to feel.. Although they can be just as good, USA guitars don't feel anything like CS guitars.. At least, not to me. Their necks are bigger while being shaped differently as well. They have different top carves, different hardware, different frets, different everything.

Lastly, they sound about a million times better out of the box than anything USA makes... That's not to say you can't make a USA sound great, but again, it's easier with the CS. They tend to have a more organic, open tone whereas USAs are usually a bit brighter and focused.

Would it be worth it to lose two USAs for one Historic? That all depends on those USAs and which Historic. Tell me about the two you have.

It's a difficult question for me to answer really... First off, forget about getting one from GC. Not only will they just rip you off, their stock is sub-par.. That's the truth and I don't give a damn what anybody says to the contrary.

Next... I have both because the USA factory is perfectly capable of making guitars just as good as the Custom Shop. It's just slightly easier to find really good CS guitars.. My USAs were searched out and picked very carefully. My favorite CS Les Pauls were ordered from all the way across the country.
