My LP was a fretless wonder and I discussed what I was looking for with the luthier who did the work and he suggusted 6155 dunlop frets. Worked out good, but took some getting used to. Plays great!
I attached the link the the guy, Rich Beck, that did mine and he has a good article with Pictures on refreting. My new frets come up to the binding and come over it a little. The binding is not removed to do the refret. There are a couple of hairline cracks in the binding where the new frets meet it, but not on all frets and it's barely noticable on the ones w/ the crack

Mine is a 1976 and I had it refretted in 2007, so almost 30 years. I wouldn't worry about a refret on a guitar as now as yours.
