whoa...that makes a lot of sense....when I am showing people bar chords I show them that if you hold the position it would look just like that open chord they are playing...dig?

Pat has a strange, but logical way of fingering. He views the open strings as "Fret 0", and often places his 1st finger on the string behind the nut when playing one, (unless he's using one as a pedal tone.)

That way his fingerings are consistent all the way across the fretboard, and he doesn't altar anything for the open and lower positions.

It's a bit strange, but it makes sense. I think he developed the idea when he was relearning to play after his memory was wiped out by those aneurysms.

"Pat Martino's Gibson signature model is actually really good for behind-the-nut bends. He doesn't use the technique, but he needs a straight string path for his playing style."

tell me all...why is that...I have never worried or thought about the string angle...

"To my ear, the harder plastic, (a result of the dyes used) of the creme bobbins lends a nice boost to upper midrange and treble frequencies. The black plastics seem to accentuate low-mids.

So if your guitar is naturally bright, a set of double-blacks should balance it out, quite nicely. A zebra truly offers the best of both worlds, and should be your choice if your guitar has a balanced acoustic response.

    (belated) April Fools."

you had me going for a second.....I was thinking: no way but, this guy sure knows what he is talking about...LOL
