Man I wish I could afford a fatboy! The Iron 880 is the only one I found I could afford. I'd kill for a dyna though.

Why do you start all of your posts with a long row of "="? It makes them very hard to read.

Between them and your full-screen signature, I think a lot of your hard work and good advice is going to waste.

Aren't those a harder fit for taller people though? I'm 6'2, so comfort is kinda a premium.

Either a Dyna used, or an iron 883.

Hey man! Thanks for posting in my motorcycle thread. I was thinking about getting my first Harley, I was wondering if I could get your take on this one I had picked out?

The problem I have with the factory Gibson Varitone is that as you move the switch from 1-2-3-4-5-6, not only does the tone changes to a thinner tone, but the volume is significantly reduced too.
I have to constantly keep increasing the volumes as I switch the Varitone switch.
I use the Varitone to more easily back off the volumes.
I move the Varitone switch from position-1 to the 2nd or 3rd when playing backup rhythm, which is a much lower volume than in position-1.
When it’s my turn to play lead, I switch the Varitone switch to position-1 (wide open) and play, then back to position 2 or 3 to reduce the volume again.
What I would rather have is a Varitone switch which allows the tone to become thinner, all the way down to a “single-coil” pickup tone without the overall volume being reduced.
Does your Varitone switch maintain the overall volume levels as the tone becomes thinner as the switch is moved from 1-6?

    Thank you.

Some of the Gibson 345 have stereo Varitone, the Big D Varitone is mono but it sounds great. Evene more importantly wold be to use some of the best 10% CTS500K pots. They will add clarity and have a smooth custom taper. I also build my 335/345 rigs with 50's wiring, not the stock muddy modern wiring. Here is a pic of a "Lucile" rig I built a month or so back and shipped it to the EU.
