    Hi Dave,

    Thanks for the advice. I've got hold set of sandpaper with grits of 180, 240, 320, 400, 500, 600, 800, 1000, 1200 and 2000.

Quick question though - how exactly do the T-cut and rubbing compound work? It sounds like they are the only two I need to restore a glassy finish from a dull one... but I can't fathom how they can dry and be clear when they come from 2 different tubes...

    Cheers,
    Andy

    Hey Andy!

Yeah I do have some experience from long ago, French polishing etc. Basically you need use the wet n dry highest grade such as 400 - 2000 grit. I use 1200 depending on the scratchwork etc, better to start off light not to employ more scratches you want rid of.

Once you have found the appropriate grade grit e.g. 800 to rid the initial scratchwork move up the grades to eventually bring back the shine. Use with water with the grit all the time, so not to get dry.

You may want to try Rubbing Compound from Halfords before using any grit paper.

Try that and then just the usual T-Cut:

If the rubbing compound and t-cut hasn't shifted the scratches use the grit and then rubbing compound and t-cut treatment!

I used just the compound and t-cut on my Highway One Tele, they're matt finish. It now looks almost shiny vintage, looks fab. No pic's im afraid. I'll try to get one to you later!!

Can you believe they use that stuff on cars too!!! Lol!!

    Hiya Dave

Just wanted to ask you a question... Am I right in thinking you have some experience in refinishing/polishing wood? If I remember correctly, we spoke a while ago about me buffing up the dull finish on my Burny. Well, I've just got round to ordering wet/dry sandpaper in grits from 80 to 2000 and I know I'm going to need to finish it off with something like T-cut scratch remover, but they only come in set colours like blue or green. Is there a clear alternative??

If you have no idea what I am talking about, let me know!!

Hi again! Yeah, a while though it doesn't seem that long..and still learning, currently some 'Chicken Pickin'!!

Slash is one of the many guitarists who have and still do inspire me today. The solo (the very last one) in November Rain is one of my 'faves'. I believe that was Joe Perry's '59 he's playing there and later gave it back to Joe for his birthday?? Think thats right. Cheers!
