The "town deer" are all relatively tame. This doe, Blondie, was especially tame already when we moved on this property. She is a runt of some kind, and I think it's her clever way of surviving and reproducing in spite of that. The buck is one of her offspring, and has been overly tame since birth (she has others who aren't). He's three now, already 15% or more larger than his mother, yet still tame. If that's still the case next year when he's another 50 pounds heavier with 10 or 12 points...
Just got a shot of the buck's mom. We call her Blondie, as she's the only deer around here without black fur outlining her ears. She seems old and scrawny, yet she's been having one or two fawns every year for the five we've known her.
The chin-on-railing shot is about 8 ft. from the kitchen window. He was cruising the bird feeders when we noticed each other. The repose shot is about 15 ft. out from that. He stayed there for about three hours, even with the dogs going in and out. They know to leave him be. This was the first shot of the series:
