FS: Bolt on Floyd Rose for Les Paul
I bought this on eBay about a year ago. It is in decent, functional condition. This is for a Les Paul but it seems like it might work on an SG-not sure though.
![]() I made a rubber gasket and I put it down on the top of my guitar prior to installation (Les Paul Custom Lite w/gold hardware--trem is chrome). I also put two small washers just on top of the rubber at the stop tail post holes prior to installing the stop tail bolts. This gives it just enough safe clearance as to not mess up the top of the guitar. I learned the hard way this should be done since it had put small dents in the top of the guitar at the corners of the trem just beyond the post holes. Luckily, I was able to steam out most of the dents. In the pic, the stop tail bolts should probably be screwed in further but I just threw it on to show what it generally looks like installed. I had it on for about a year and took it off for a repair job. Pic shows clearance of trem with washers and rubber gasket underneath: ![]() ![]() If you look at the trem near the bridge pickup, it appears the corner is slightly bent. It just barely clears the surface of the guitar and has not affected the function of the trem: ![]() If you look at the other side, by comparison, it is straight: ![]() The bridge side of the trem rests on top of the factory bridge inserts. If I were to re-install this trem, I would drop a couple of flat head screws inside the insert holes so that the heads would rest on top of the inserts which would raise the trem just a tad more. This would allow the knife edge adjustments to screw down a little further as they are sticking up quite a bit. There are two spring tension adjustment screws. They are skinny and are vulnerable to breaking where there is a C washer/retainer (on the factory adjustment screws). The ones in this unit are replacements that I had made by a local machine shop. I broke one with barely any force and the machine shop guy broke the other one by accident. The new ones are made of a stronger, harder grade steel and instead of the C washer/retainer (or whatever you call it) they put lock nuts on. This allows the screws to turn as they are supposed to but without there being a groove cut into the screw for the "C" which is where these things break on the factory adjustment screws. When adjusting, you must turn one screw one turn, then the other one turn. Since the adjustment screws are not visible when the unit is installed, it is easy for the two sides to become out of alignment when trying to adjust the screws and then they bind up and it puts pressure on the adjustment screws. ![]() Here's what the old (factory) screws looked like with the screw broken at the C groove. This is the picture I emailed to the machine shop. It cost me $50 to have the screws made. (actually, it cost $50 for one and the other was free because the guy a the machine shop broke it and he said making extras is cheap--its the first one that costs). ![]() This trem works well--does dive bombs like a regular Floyd. It does have a different feel--is a little stiffer. As adjusted on my guitar right now in standard tuning with a set of 9's, it does also pull up about 1 1/2 steps in pitch. There is no nut lock with the unit which most people probably would not want anyway since it would require irreversible mods to the guitar. What I did is put a graphite nut on. I was going to also get a set of locking grovers to put in place of the factory grovers but I never got around to it. They also make locking vintage/gibson style machines if that's what you have on your guitar. I paid $350 for this trem a year ago and have a total of 400 into it. I'm asking $350, OBO and unit functional, is sold as is, no refunds. Shipping to be determined depending on your location. Trem unit is in Michigan. I will take a few offers for a few days and if I receive no reasonable offers, I will put it on eBay. Payment via Paypal. Send me a pm if interested.
