Re: Aussie Sellers Thread
You said you buy from Guitar Crazy - because as I said my dealings with them were very disappointing to say the least...........and their prices are steep too. Not as silly as Jacksons, but well above the going rate.
Maybe what people are asking is why you see Jacksons as a benchmark?? Your benchmark for what - old guitars - often in poor or average condition - being offered at exorbitant prices?? What does Jackson's do that makes them the benchmark?? I'm not having a go here, I'm genuinely curious. |

Re: Aussie Sellers Thread
Circus - if you want something - let's say it's not the Usual Thing. For whatever reason, you decide you want an early 1970s Strat.
Because (at last time I checked) Jacksons had half a dozen of them, and they range in price and condition (as all SH guitars do) and they will let you play them, often for an extended period, with no questions and no snide comments - why would you not use them as your benchmark? now, I do not play a Rick 360 with some unmentionable modifications. But i do know a little about MIJ LPs and little about some types of guitars which are slowly becoming thought of as 'vintage'. I have not found the difficulties with stores like Jacksons. They have the range. They will show you the ink-mark on the heel of the neck if you ask to see it. I consider them well worth going to. They are my first call. Steve has a fair amount of knowledge. I am not talking about knowing what a Norlin is; nor about Dan Smith strats. He knows who has or had what. He knows, generally speaking, what is in private hands in eastern Australia. Some of the guitars in his shop have passed through several pairs of hands to get there. There are other reasons, too, but that will do for now. |

Re: Aussie Sellers Thread
Okay - to clarify - my issue with Jacksons is the OUTRAGEOUS prices they charge. How do I know what they charge? Because I go there every 5 or 6 weeks. Why do I go there? Glad you asked mate.
Because - it's the only place that I know of that will let me walk in (knock on the door first) and let me play a $30 or $50K guitar for as long as I like. And I've obviously talked to Steve Jackson - he's always friendly when I've seen him, and all I've ever bought there is strings a few times & a Les Paul tshirt. They are unrealistic with their prices - as shown by the '68 Goldtop story above. And if you are willing to look I believe that you can find almost any guitar they have elsewhere in Australia, at a WAY better price. I was more having a go at Guitar Crazy - I'm astonished that they have stayed in business as long as they have. In my (attempted) dealings with them I found them to be unprofessional, disinterested and just plain dishonest - that is offering guitars for sale that they did not have. I'm not talking about the messed up web page, I'm talking about offering me a guitar on the phone, then when I turn up at the shop with the cash they actually never had the guitar at all. Then later emailing me pics of "guitars for sale", then when I say I'd like to view one and buy it I'm told that the pics were of a "private collection" and not for sale after all. Unsurprisingly they are shutting up shop!! Apparently they'll be selling on Ebay though. After my experiences I'd be very wary of dealing with them. Jackson's has it's issues. but at least they are professionals. |

Re: Aussie Sellers Thread
I think it's really worthwhile posting this sort of stuff. People need to be warned about about unprofessional dealers. On the other hand, I'd recommend Matt's Vintage Guitars all day long. Matt seems like a nice guy, very professional, he has a good range at good prices. I'm very happy with the '91 SG I bought from Matt, and I plan to buy another from him soon.
This is unsolicited opinion - the best advertising that you can get. Matt = good, Guitar Crazy = unprofessional time wasters. I reckon there's a few of us who'd like to hear about any other good sellers around here - if anyone else can recommend any. |

Re: Aussie Sellers Thread
Bit of an issue - seems that I have too many guitars and not enough money. Oh No!!
So if anyone is interested I'm selling a couple. I got this Gibson for cheap a few months back, after getting it couriered to Sydney and a pro set up just 8 weeks ago I'm selling at a loss. Oh well. It's a 2005 model Gibson Les Paul double cut, with 2 x P90's. The tuners have been upgraded to Gibson Deluxe (no holes), and it comes in a hard case. The retail on this is $2499 - and that's without a pro set up, button tuners and no hard case. I'll sell for $1100 cash. It's a great sounding guitar with a low low action. ![]() ![]() of course you can have a play before you buy, oh, and I still have the original tuners. |

Re: Aussie Sellers Thread
![]() This is a set neck, all mahogany Fender Telecaster Custom Deluxe with real coil tapped USA Seymour Duncans. It's got a superflat thin neck, full body and neck binding, abalone dot markers, etc etc. It's the dogs balls really and I'll probably regret selling this. It is a 2007 model, in as new condition with the plastic still on the back, and comes with a regular USA Fender hardcase. It was made in Korea - but don't let that put you off - it is a top of the line guitar and a steal at $1125 cash. Anyone who tries it will buy it - it's a way better playing and sounding guitar than the Gibson in my opinion. Let me know if anyone is interested in a pair of good, cheaply priced guitars. Stephen. |

Re: Aussie Sellers Thread
Hey ho anyone in Sydney!!
Seriously, no one wants a P90 Les Paul with a case for $1100? Times must be tight. This is a sweet guitar, I just can't afford to keep it. |

Re: Aussie Sellers Thread
I've had to eat into some money I had put aside for a rainy day so the immediate crisis has past. But I still have more guitars now than I need or have room for/time to play.
So I still want to sell a couple, but there's not as much of a hurry about it. I would much rather sell to one of us dudes here, MLPers, who'll appreciate it. So if and when someone comes up with some dough to spare, then let me know and we can work it out. (Just in case anyone is curious, the reason that I don't need the Fender or the LPDC is: Gibson '62 reissue SG Gibson '57 reissue Les Paul Junior (Singlecut) 80's MIJ Fender Strat Gibson Blueshawk Gibson Joan Jett Melody Maker Epiphone Wilshire) That's enough to keep me amused.!! |

Re: Aussie Sellers Thread
There's a local coffee shop here that sells some old and used guitars... I wonder if it would be a good idea to get him to post some of his items on here.. I know he's got a sweet 78 honey burst gibson in his store for A$3800
Do you guys know if its against the rules or something to do so? I could assist him with taking pics! But I would still have to talk to him about it... |

The Les Paul and the Tele are sold. I got a reasonable offer for both so I took it. The market for selling guitars seems ptretty down at the moment.

Re: Aussie Sellers Thread
I ended up taking two grand cash for both. Fabulous price for two good guitars.
In the last two weeks I've bought the Gibson Blueshawk and the 1980 335 S Pro. That's getting towards $5K on guitars when the missus already thought that I had too many guitars. (But what does she know??). The deal is that if I want to live to see xmas at least one more guitar has to go. I got a 2009 faded cherry Les Paul Junior brand new on ebay about six or seven weeks ago. I haven't really bonded with it - nothing whatsoever wrong with it, it just doesn't do it for me. Especially compared to the 335, the Blueshawk and the 62 reissue SG. So if anyone wants it for $900, with Gibson paperwork, and pro setup done.................of course you can try it first if you can manage the trek to the wilds of Petersham! |

Re: Aussie Sellers Thread
Yep, pictures - sorry!!
I've posted pics in other threads about it - this is 100% how it came from Gibson USA. They must have run out of button style tuners, so it has Klusen style Gibson Deluxe tuners on it. All the Juniors that Shire Music had were the same. If that bothers you I have a set of Gibson button style tuners that came from my Special that I'd throw in. It's probably only had about three or four hours worth of playing time, and I got it set up at Wild Horse guitars about four weeks ago (10 - 52 Rotosounds). It really is 'as new'. It was a bit of an impulse buy, and I just prefer to play my other guitars, simple as that!! It has the Gibson warranty card (matching serial number of course) & manual that come with it. I've even got the original Gibson shipping carton with matching serial number if you want it!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() and here's a big reason why I've hardly played it!!:

Re: Aussie Sellers Thread
Damn! That blueshawk looks Gorgeous! The local coffee shop I told you about has an ice tea finish Epiphone (I think it was an Epi) Blueshawk.. The thing is a beauty! He was sellin it for 650 or something.. I got my eyes on acoustics as my next guitar.. so had to pass on it
![]() http://www.blueshawk.info/the_hawk_series.htm Edit: Is it against forum rules to plug in gumtree.com.au or ebay links for good deals I find on the internet, in this thread? |
