I don't know if detaching the neck will matter much in the long run.

For shipping it all together, wrap the body around the controls in bubble wrap, then wrap the headstock in bubble wrap, and put it into the gigbag.

Wrap the body around the gigbag in Bubble wrap, then the neck and headstock areas. Shove the guitar in the box, body first and then use empty 12 pack soda boxes to line the neck up inside the box, fill them with newspaper or bubble wrap. Make sure there's enough padding where any part of the guitar touches the box as a puncture or a solid drop at those points could spell disaster.

That's how I pack my guitars for shipment.

Thanks. What I plan on doing is detaching the body, wrapping the neck in bubble wrap and tape, and the same with the body, then filling the box with packing peanuts.

How safe does that sound? It'll just be a pain in the ass to get that stuff.

You think Fedex will give me peanuts and bubble wrap?

Hmmmmmmm! I think this is a great deal! Someone get this one.

I like to put styrofoam on both sides of the guitar as well. Typically I'll wrap the case/gig bag with bubble wrap. Then I'll pack the bottom/sides with peanuts. Once everything's covered up I'll put some peanuts on top along with a crapload of newspaper. I also insure the guitar for whatever value the person that's buying it for.

I'm pretty sure it does. I've shipped bolt-ons in pieces via UPS Ground, fully insured for about $14. Smaller package is definitely cheaper.

No chance, But you can get that stuff at WalMart/Kmart, etc. cheap, too. But I've pretty much managed to get a lot of mileage out of good ol' newsprint. It can do teh job very well.

fed ex gound will pick it up at your house too. i have them do it all the time.

I will never ship another guitar with the guys in brown. FED ex ground is cheaper and they don't break your shit.
