WTB: Beater Epiphone (or Gibson) LP!

Okay boys and girls, I need to find a beater Epiphone LP Standard in Honeyburst (or similar looking finish) for a prop. I plan on putting bullet holes in this guitar the old fashioned way (with a rifle!), so it doesn't even need to have working electronics.

Hell, if you have an absolutely F***'d up Gibson LP Standard that fits the bill, even better! The crappier the better!

Well, for all I know you could be female. Nothing wrong with female but you could be one. So it follows suit that you couldn't be a f**ked up "man" if you are female.

Are you following me at this point?

You get brownie points for getting it right. I have a convention coming up in Boston and I thought that be a cool getup + prop combo.

And Hank, to be fair, a lot of people think I'm a pretty feminine guy.

Are you going to try to imitate the broken neck pickup?

A really cheap, old Epi Goldtop would be perfect actually...

Re: WTB: Beater Epiphone (or Gibson) LP!

Why not just use the "bullet hole stickers" that you see on cars all the time?

I don't know that you'll get clean punched holes - you may very well just blow a chunk of the body off!

Actually, I was thinking I'd more likely use a power drill and a file to make the bullet holes, rather than the exciting youtube vista of shooting a guitar with a rifle.

Good idea. You could use a soldering iron to very lightly singe the edge of the holes...

No! Use the rifle. A hole will look just like that; a hole. A bullet hole the same; a bullet hole.

I don't know how well that would work. I wonder what happens when you touch a soldering iron to a poly finish?

Re: WTB: Beater Epiphone (or Gibson) LP!

if you're going to drill instead of make a real bullet hole. You might want to consider doing some light hammering to get the downward compression.

Re: WTB: Beater Epiphone (or Gibson) LP!

Have you shot much wood with a rifle there Sable? I'd have no way of knowing if you have, but I personally have never seen a "clean" punched hole through a thick piece of wood. I've only fired a few tens of thousands of rounds in my day, though. I usually see something like this:

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/29/10...7bb0dd.jpg?v=0

(those look like exits - but similarly, I usually see big chunks around the hole missing as well. On a thick guitar body, the exit hole would be huge)

Re: WTB: Beater Epiphone (or Gibson) LP!

I'm sure that the link I posted was from a handgun, but even a smaller caliber bullet out of a rifle will blow the back out of your guitar as it is traveling so much faster - unless of course you've got a smaller bullet moving a little slower (like a .22LR - which won't even make it all the way through the guitar. Holes that small might look silly, though).

I'm far from a ballistics expert - but have done a lot of shooting. I'm just guessing here, based on what I've seen out at ranges.

Dice is right. My main concern from the get go would be splintering and what would happen on the other side of the guitar as the bullet exits.

Hm, I wonder what a frangible round would do to it. Do those things really do nothing to anything harder than flesh?
