i think this is a 1988 Goldtop "Pre-historic" Reissue ,but not sure courd be a lot older im dont no how to date it The serial number is ink stamped "8 0080"
good condition ,miner dings

sorry im in the uk chelmsford essex , Any help would be greatly apprieciated....I was under the impression that it was a re issue from 1980....do these carry the same serials given to 1958.....when I search the serial number it just comes up with 1958 Kallamazoo factory. Thanking anyone in advance for their help

have had it looked at a music shop and they told me it is a 1988 classic Reissue, offered me £900

I think it's a '98 classic, but it should say les paul classic instead of model. '88 classics don't exsist. Pre classic reissue's don't have the narrow headstock and different headstock inlay. Does it have a thin or wide binding in the cutaway?

you guys are fried, that is a real gibson.................they had 57 gold top reissues in 83-90, my guess is 1988

and yes the gibson gold back then looked like that, it wasn't until later did they get it right. i had a 1988 showcase edition goldtop that looked the same color only it was a 56 reissue.
