FS: R9 '59 LP Flametop

Guitar is in excellent to "as new" condition, with limited playing time. Have owned it since new. No repairs or mods. Has black Historic Shop HSC and incorrect hang tags (thanks, Mars Music ).

Pictures and description posted on:

Stuff For Sale

Yes, the two other guitars listed there are also for sale.

I'm a complete noob, so all usable comments are welcome. Please contact me by PM if you think you might be interested. Thanks.

UPDATE 12/12/07: Asking price is $4,000 or best reasonable offer. Payment by wire transfer only. Buyer pays shipping + any insurance. Will be pleased to arrange for a mutually acceptible local third party inspection prior to payment or shipping so that we're both protected.

Re: FS: R9 '59 LP Flametop

one thing that is helpful is to mention what you are selling it for?

In other words: How much?

Other useful details are weight and a description of the neck size. Exact measurements aren't necessary, but a summation along the line of "Its a pencil neck" to "Its a baseball bat" also are good for buyers to know.

Mars Music, boy, now that is a name I haven't heard in a long time. I think I applied for an accounting position with them, glad I didn't get it. They went under soon afterwards. Not only did they not give you the right hang tags, did they give you the certificate? Probably not.

I like the '99s, I've had 4 of them, would like to get another and keep it this time. Of course, that's what I say about all my guitars.

Oh sure, all the hard questions right up front. I'm expecting appraisals back soon (today?) on all three & will update my post with asking prices when I've got the estimates. Sorry for the stall. PM me if you want to suggest a (reasonable) price.

I'll hit the digital scales later today but Mr. Bathroom scale says the '59 tips in just over 8#. Although I'm convinced the scales make me out to be heavier than I actually am [snicker], 8 pounds seems low for the LP.

As for the neck, I'd call it a medium width "C" - that is, thick between thumb & fingers, but not too wide for a small hand like mine. In comparison, the '60 Goldtop feels like it has a slightly narrower neck at the head, and feels thinner between thumb & fingers, and the Strat feels a bit wider across but much thinner between thumb & fingers. Time to break-out the measuring tape, eh? Stay tuned [pun].

They went out of business 'cause they didn't hire you? Dewd...

I gotta blame me before them (but I DO blame them, too). I didn't do the homework as to what should've come with it. You know of what you speak - I got the wrong tags PLUS got no COA, got no vintage strap ('tho they did provide a nice one off the rack N/C), got no vintage 59 case, got no Gibson care kit, and got no Gibson bling bling jacket. If I wasn't always late for everthing, I'd probably go by "Mr. Bliss" 'cause I am fully capable of being one completely ignorant sunny beach.

+1 Sold a heap o'nice wood during & after college (this about the time dirt had been discovered). Something about being hungry, but it hurts thinking about the (early 60's) Seafoam Green Strat, Black Beauty LP, pearl white Ibanez 6 / 12 SG, black LS6, cherry Gretch, etc... The Strat & LP were hard-used stuff taken on trade... I remember the LP having a real tuff time keeping strings. The store owner was happy to get 'em out of his store quickly - sold 'em at starving student prices. Lord knows I was starving. Faded & scratched - today we call that "patina".
