Re: Les Paul Odyssey

Congrats Ryan! It looks good- how does it sound? How about some sound clips? I'm part way through a build and at 15 minutes a day it will take forever to finish . I hope mine looks as good as yours.

Lol, give us time to read that massive update !

Thanks a lot for the info on that jig. Good idea to use the ready bolts as a first height and level/tilt adjustment. As you suggested, that's one of the jigs i will definitely test a couple times before passing my top against it... It gives me a good idea for a starting point.

I remember you asking what the stewmac body support block does, maybe it's to avoid the "guitar back was not flat" issue you had. You support the body on 4 points that you level, and go from there. That actually seems a good idea, I might try to incorporate it in mine.

For the guitar itself, I like it a lot. It looks like it's ready to roar !
Great job, and i am happy for you that it play great also.

Amazing results, Ryan! Your guitar sucks! (nah I'm just kidding! I like it a lot!)

The maple top finish is really impressive. I love what you did. The fretboard inlays are great, and the overal look of that guitar is beautiful.

I agree that the only thing left that you could to to end this thread would be to give us a sound sample...

Ryan, yeah it does suck, I'll tell ya what, being as I'm kinda like that, send it to me and I'll dispose of it and save you the embarrassment of it being found in your woodpile. I'm only doing this as a buddy you understand. I'll give it a blessing and a proper funeral on my wall, er um, in the ground, yeah thats it the ground. I'll even pay the postage cause thats the kinda guy that I am..

Regards,

D.

Thanks for the compliments Andy! Keep working away on your build and I am sure it will be a killer guitar! I will try to get some sound clips up when I figure out the best way to record myself.

Pemorin, thanks for the compliments!

No worries on the info for the jig, I hope it will help you develop something better. I love the Stew Mac tools, I would buy all of them in the catalog if I could afford them!

Good luck with your build!

Thanks, TKO! I guess great minds do think alike. Our inlays are almost identical although I like yours better as there is less space between the rhombi. Your build is looking great and I think your plans for the yellow will really look stunning with that maple top! Good luck with your build, I will be following it.

Thanks for your kind words! I was a little concerned that the cream pickups would not go well with the overall look but I think they compliment it now. Originally, I was going to install zebras into it and was waiting for another Slash Alnico but I got tired of waiting and installed the Dimarzio PAFs.

I will work on providing a sound sample and get something posted to the thread to wrap it up.

Where in Canada do you live? I am in Calgary. Take care.

Hey Rev, you're too kind! Send me your address pronto, I have to get rid of this thing as it is taking up too much space in my scrap wood bin. Not even worth stripping the parts off it. Thanks for the laugh man.

That looks great! Love the yellow/red combination.

I have finished a kit with a similar color combo, but the red has since faded a lot...

Ryan, I completely forgot about your build thread. I'm glad to see that all came together nicely for you. Any chance of some audio/video clips as soon as you can?

Thanks Beuford! I'll see what I can do about the sound clips, I don't have anything to record to yet. It would probably be better to record someone else playing it anyhow.

I'd suggest leaving it the way it is. It looks great!
