is it easy to bend a tuning peg?
Has anyone ever done this?
I bought a used LP and I noticed recently one of the tuning pegs (G string) is slightly bent. It works fine, but made me wonder if the guitar ever fell down and if a fall could cause that. Or is it so easy to bend a peg that it might have happened while using a peg winder? Just wondering how common or rare this condition is. Also, I guess I cant replace a single tuner huh? They seem to all come in sets of 6. |

Re: is it easy to bend a tuning peg?
I knocked my (now gone) Classic over, in the stand.
2x Lucky, all that ever happened was the D tuner shaft was bent. Can't remember if the machine was still usable, I just replaced it.

Re: is it easy to bend a tuning peg?
When I bought my Classic, one of the [Gibson Deluxe] tuning pegs was replaced with a Kluson Copy from All-Parts, but the original owner left the original one in the case.
He must of droped/or bumped it pretty hard, because the shaft was bent beyond repair, but no matter, because the replacement is exactly the same, so it really isn't a big deal. He also included the rest of them (still in the package) with the guitar, so if I decide to change the rest of them, I'm set. As long as it's not causing any problems (it's not hard to turn, or doesn't stay in tune) then I wouldn't worry too much, but if you do decide you want to replace it, check out All-Parts. |

Re: is it easy to bend a tuning peg?
thanks for the tip about all-parts...
so pretty much it was probably dropped if the tuning peg is bent? Something like that is not possible any other way (like maybe a mishap while tuning?) |

As long as it doesn't interfere with anything, it should be ok, but it's up to you to determine whether or not you want to/should change it, especially if it's very noticeable. |

Re: is it easy to bend a tuning peg?
thanks rockstar.
if i replace the single tuner, i guess i have to figure out which model of tuner is a 'drop in replacement' for the tuners on the gibson faded cherry studio. Also i dont know yet if i can reuse the tip of it (the peg, which is a gray color which seems to be hard to find). Does the peg come off separately from the tuner? |
