LP top 3D drawings.

Anyone has or can make 3D drawings for LP top in actual size?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: LP top 3D drawings.

What are you exactly looking for? A contour shown from above? A plan? A greyscale image?

Or do you need files?

Re: LP top 3D drawings.

Why not simply purchase one or more Les Pauls that you are seeking to duplicate, and then run them through a saw to get the cross sections and profiles you are looking for?
After all, this is for a commercial venture isn't it?

lol, is it really necessary to ruin a guitar to make a 3d model? Just give me a ruler and a vernier caliper, and i'd do it. If i felt like it.

Re: LP top 3D drawings.

Here's a view of the top I made. It won't be useful for you as it's based on polygons, but I'd like to share it anyway! I wanted the lines to accent the top carve, but the camera angles are wrong so they're not too helpful ...

Re: LP top 3D drawings.

As I said - I need FILES for CNC engineer. Not for myself. I can carve perfect top with my eyes closed. But I'm total dumbie in CAD, and all this creepy stuff. That's why I asked for help with FILES. Trashing LP will not give me a file.

Re: LP top 3D drawings.

George, as much as I'd love for my kits from you to be 100% vintage accurate, I have a feeling that you're not going to find anyone willing to share their file. Some of the CAD designers on this forum have already made it clear that they won't do that. And I can't blame them, since it takes months to develop the model, not to mention all the years that went into learning their craft and all the time it took to study real guitars. And many of those who developed their models use them in their line of business, so the sharing of those files would be akin to helping their competition.

I wonder if there are services that will scan 3D objects into a CAD file. If so, you could take one of your carved tops to them, and have them do that for you.

Anyway, I wish you luck with your search.

Frank

I think Frank's on the right track. If you carved a nice top that you're happy with you can get it scanned and digitized. That way you also have full credit for your work.

Re: LP top 3D drawings.

I didn't ask to share it for free.
And I found better solution. I'll make perfectly carved top and send it to the factory. They have CAD, they already agreed to work this way.

U can use polygon models with cnc, just have to convert them to the right fileformat.

i'm no expert but seriously, a lot of cnc-ing is being done from polygon models.
It's just coordinates u need, xyz axis..

Re: LP top 3D drawings.

Poly...what? The only "poly" I know is polyurethane.
And, oh, yes, polygamy. But it's "no-no" thing...
Guys, I'm a luthier, not a computer wizard. I have no any slightest idea, what all these xyz are, honestly. But I'd be glad to get a correct file and pay for it, if necessary.
Or exchange it for a pair of my best handwound PAFs. Any way is OK to me.

I always like to help people out with my work! The question is, if this is really what you wanted. I think it's a good carve, done after some research, but I'm not sure about it's accurateness in detail.

Now I'm no expert, but I think this carve you have here looks fantastic, Knarbens.

Edit: In fact it looks very much like the one on the guitar in my avatar.

Re: LP top 3D drawings.

Yes, that's correct top carve. The file I need should be readable by CAD program, then engineer can convert it to the computer program for CNC router.

Re: LP top 3D drawings.

I made plain maple top, with side profile of Bartlett's plan, and my own measurements of real 59' burst, here's result before final sanding. If somebody see any mistakes - please, tell me.

Re: LP top 3D drawings.

George, surely you'd be better off taking one of your Own Tops into a Scanning/Digitizing workshop, and have them scan/Digitize your own Maple Top?

I don't know where you are located in CA, but there's a place in Burbank that scans/digitizes -

Cyber FX

If you Google:' California + CNC Scanning ' you'll have some of these places come up. And there must be one or two locally - Yellow pages?

At least you'll be in Full Control of what Info you then send to China.

I think the accuracy you seek is in your own Hands/Work.
