What's on YOUR workbench right now?

As I wait on wood, templates, specialty tools, etc.... in preparation for my first build, I have a blank I made from cedar that I am practicing on...

So everyone jump in here, post a couple of recent pictures and a link to your build thread...

This could turn out to be a thread that everyone can use to easily find current build threads, sorta like a table of contents

No build thread for me yet, but I will start one when I have acquired everything.

I do have a thread where as a Noob guitar maker I am asking questions...

Re: What's on YOUR workbench right now?

I'll add a few pics because I completely spaz out when trying to shoot as I go. As once mentioned by Mr. Pine in a thread not too long ago that it might be easier to post the documentary after the build is complete. For somebody like me, that is probably very good advice.

Re: What's on YOUR workbench right now?

This one will be for me. I will be building it in tandem with a few LP orders and I'll squeeze it in as much as possible. This particular Explorer was inspired by a members avatar. I don't know much about the explorer or what years certain options were available but the one in the avatar I fine absolutely stunning.
First pic, selecting and getting ready to chop the blank.
Second pic, the blank with rough outline. I selected a wide enough board so that I could keep the grain running straight down the body.
3rd pic. rough cut profile.
I did not get too close to the line because I will have to run the blank through the planer at an angle. My planer would not have accepted the rectangular blank at that size.
The extra wood outside of the line will protect the "live" part of the blank from any sniping that may occur during the planing. Once I get it close to the right thickness, I'll send it through the sander.
I think when Gibson decided to build the explorer or futura, they were looking for way to compete with Fender on ease of construction as well as price point, so I don't think they would have used a one piece body (the first ones were 1 piece korina).
Mine will be a one piece Mahogany body with a bookmatched maple top.

My workbench is empty since the replica is in Canada, getting a complete refin by Tom the man. I'm gathering info and parts for my '60 LP Custom build though. This time I'm better prepared. I hope.......

Re: What's on YOUR workbench right now?

Here is the trimmed body blank.

Went out to the the wood shed to see if I could find a top.
I think that somewhere in this pile is a suitable top.

Oh look! How convenient, this piece right on top looks good enough.

I didn't have any naptha out in the shed so I gave it a swift kick in photoshop...we will call this digital naptha.

Love the bass. What is the fingerboard on that? And if you don't mind two more questions what is the neck angle and hardware? I'm wanting to build a fretless really bad. Awesome work, I really want to see the finished project!

Re: What's on YOUR workbench right now?

It's not worth a thread of its own yet, so I figured I'd show what I'm up to. It's a re-design of my Less Tall Octave guitar. I wanted to make the body a little bigger, with more of a vintage shape and top carve. Here's yesterday's progress (including a rough cut mahogany back):
