Two Questions

Hi,

I have the semi-hollow build thread and I have a couple of questions for the general populace.

1. I bought a Torres engineering varitone switch because I really love the tone BB King, Freddie King and Chuck Berry get/got. But I've read a lot of negative things about the Gibson varitone being tone-suckers for the most part. I haven't been able to find many comments one way or the other on the quality of the Torres varitone (mine is wired to a push/pull pot for more tones and blends). I have Sheptone pickups and an RS guitarworks vintage electronics kit as well if the extra info helps.

2. I really like the tone of most guitars with wraparound bridges not to mention less holes to drill in my bitchin' figured maple top. Are there any legitimate reasons not to go with any aluminim wraparound over the tun-o-matic?

I would appreciate ANY opinions becuase I want as much info as possible before I start drilling on the topp.

Thank You Very Much,

Cain61

wraparound? = no intonation adjustment
suggest using one of these instead....

Re: Two Questions

The varitone switch is as much a tone sucker as you want it to be, or in your case, don't want it to be.
Get the switch and add your own caps. Decade knobs are just a bunch of caps that you choose from by switching the dial. They could be made to do many other functions as well.
Think of notch filter and the tone knob as the sweep.
Torres just has one of his guys solder it up with caps that he chose. It's not hard to do and there are many guys here including RS and Jonsey that could tell you what kind of tone to expect from the different value caps.
I like SiriusAbbott's recomendation as well as the PigTail aluminum intonable wrap around a la PRS with tone pros locking studs.
