I can identify with you on that..... ![]() It took me forever on both my builds to get the nerve to drill the tailpiece bushings, not to mention committing to a final bridge position ![]() I had as many hours sitting and staring at both projects as I did actual work I don't know what to say, other than how easy your making this build look. All the hours you spent on designing is paying off big now. Keep feeding us pics!!

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
I found a old trapeze in the garage and thought I'd try to string the guitar without the need off drilling any holes and it worked just fine. I was able to intonate the Tonepro ABR 2 just by moving it around.
Here's some photos, on this one I've mounted a Duncan Antiquity. ![]() Just where I want it. I just locked the height with the small screws. They are pretty clever these Tonepros. It's a historic pup ring, here you see the difference in the pickup plane curvature. Yes, I know it's a wire ABR, I ordered the wrong type.... ![]() Hot wired premiere!!! It sounds great! On this photo I've changed to a Dimarzio PAF 36th. I almost cried when I heard the guitar. So sweet and so much sustain. It's in a desperate need of a fret preparation but it's playable and the neck is completely straight. ![]() Tom Bartlett is sending me the aniline dye for the guitar. It'll be a pretty rich sunburst, no aging. I'm really looking forward to the finish. |

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Perfect fit. Notice how you have just enough room for two thumbwheels between the bridge and the body. The mark of a perfect neck angle! I would put two thumbwheels on there so the bridge can bottom out on them making a nice solid connection for string vibration. Oh yes.

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Hey Magnus,
First. The guitar looks just great. Everything looks so clean and eligant. Second. I am probably in the minority on this but.... I personally like wire ABR-1s. Vintage or not, I think they look cool. Can't wait to see this thing bursting with color! What are you using for your yellow? Sincerely, Scott |

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Thanks for all the kind words!!
Tomorrow Leif will do a small fret preparation and the four holes will be drilled. After that I'll sand the neck to my likening. It's a little fat now, but it's better to have to much than to little. Before I'll start with the finishing I want to make sure everything is correct, I want all holes drilled and I want to wire it up and play it. |

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Fantastic build Bro. I use a trapeze as well when I want to hear my Vintage restores. Great thinking, it's amazing how good they sound even with primitive setups.

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Yeah, it works great. I didn't think it would work at first but I didn't have to do any changes, I just took a chance with the ABR height and it was right the first time.
Scott, I don't have the answer to your question, Tom has been so kind to send me a pre mixed dye kit based on this one, owned by myspace.com/jessenoah

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Heck no-not incredible- Magnus and his friend just throw the CNC'd parts into the International Plek-O-Build and it comes out put together. Then it gets thrown into Mask-O-Matic and from there to Plek-O-Spray and Buff, and there you have it-a Burst. Simple, even a Norski could do it! Still, it is a nice guitar.Ole'Lefty

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
The Tonepro stuff is finally there, the guitar is perfectly intonated, it's a great player even if there still are some job to do with the frets.
Tonight I've tested it with the plexi marshall and everything is OK, the neck profile is great now after a bit of sanding. I cranked the Marshall to 6-7 and the tone and sustain was unbelievable. Rich, powerful and lots of sustain. These photos are the last you'll see of the assembled guitar before it's finished. I'll take it apart tomorrow and start the final sanding, it's not much left. ![]() ![]()

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
I don't think you have posted this but where did you get your pickup rings? If you have don't worry about my question. I'm going to reread this thread again!
Thanks, -Nate |

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Grain filler applied. Never done it before but I thought it was quite fun and not that hard. I masked everything but the mahogany so it wasn't so much scraping to do.
It's pretty much going on with the mahogany grain, I think it looks pretty cool ![]() The filler did a fine job hiding the cutout I showed earlier. The cutout is more visible on the photo then in real life. The corner radius is copied direct from the '53 GT, it's really smooth. ![]() Some scraping left here, but I think it's looking really good. ![]() As I've never done anything like this earlier I was a little bit concerned that it's still sticky but after talking to Tom I've understood that it's normal. I'll let it cure for a couple of days until I shot the first clear nitro layers. Now It's hands of, or if I handle it I wear cotton gloves, I don't want any finger grease on the sanded maple. Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Oh Mr. Cart: did you enhance the recurve just a bit on this build-possibly just lighting, but looking at my dummy and the recent picture-hmmmm? O'L
