Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Magnus don't forget to hit that shiny new finish with a little fine grit sanding. Taking the gloss off definitely helps the solvents to evaporate - and be patient, it's so easy to burn through soft nitro with a buffing wheel.

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
The combination of that particular burst shading (is it honey? Is it iced tea?) and the figure in the maple make this the best top I've EVER seen.
Once again, an outstanding job!

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Hi Red, I'm blushing, It's pretty enough but I maybe wouldn't go as far, there are quite many really beautiful replicas around here.
Now when the nitro has sunk some waves have occured on the maple. On the most "aggresive" flames the surface is wavy, following the flames. I'm 100% sure that they not where there earlier. I figure it's nothing I can do about it, I had it on a R9 I owned before the R8. I actually think it looks pretty cool, it gives the surface some attitude, definitely not a veneer top on this one!! |

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Hi guys,
I just found out that I don't have a specific case for the guitar. What do you think? Shall I look for one of those R9 Lifton cases or do you have any other suggestion? My personal favorites are the vintage Lifton style and the flight case the Green/Moore burst have been displayed in but I'm open for other ideas. If you have something cool for sale I even might consider buying it

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Yeah, I've looked at those but they seem to be out of stock. It's no panic, I can always borrow from some other guitar but it would be great with a cool case for it.

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
idk, but why people have to have the vintage case to match their guitar??? that just seems dumb! buy the best case with the most padding and the most protection possible............

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Oh man I would love one of those cases to. I don't know how they are compared to the Gibson reissue but they look great!

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
so do repaired headstock breaks, excessive finish checking, grovered/humbucker routed LP deluxes...........
ah well, they do look cool, but i rather take a bulletproof, fireproof, waterproof, childproof, flight case anyday!

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
I bought this one for one of my guitars. It's like the stinger case wth a brown lining without the gibson logo.

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
No, I had to interrupt the test assembly, I found that I made pressure marks on the nitro when I handled the guitar so I'll let it cure a little longer before I continue.

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
I run in to my old friends the Åhden brothers today and I had my replica and the camera in the car so I thought I'd give you a sneak preview of the guitar. Sam is just fooling around and the camera microphone almost died but you get at least a hint of the tone.
In a couple of days I'll do a proper recording with the guitar, this was just for the fun of it. |

Re: GooCart's 1 Build
Earlier to day I did a small studio session with the replica. I played around with some bluesy stuff. I'm not a blues guy, I'm more of a hard rocker, but the replica tone through the '68 Plexi Marshall really didn't give me any choice, the blues tones sounded really sweet so I improvised a song and recorded a couple of tracks. For the lead I used the Marshall and the for the other guitar I used a '64 Bassman.
For the close microphone I used a Royer R-121 and for the distance/room I used a Royer SF-12 through a Focusrite preamp. There are some reverb and a Smack compressor, but that's about it. The file I uploaded is kind of heavy so it seem like it take some time to load, I'll see if I can do any changes. Here we go, I hope you like it. |
