Frank - this is a useful site for the LPJ - REFERENCE

It concentrates on a single cut, but there are plans for a DC in PDF format that enlarges beautifully. I managed to download it when I clicked on the link and saved it as a PDF but this was a while ago and I've forgotten how I did it! When you click on the link you can't "see" a picture and the screen looks blank. If you have problems, PM me and I'll email you the PDF.

They have the Catto plan and links to Roman's MLP Junior build and Tom's build, so they're aware of our endevours in Luthier's Corner.

I'm part-way through making a single cut Junior and when I figure out how to upload the pics I've been snapping I'll start a thread.

Lou - on this subject of Juniors: is the roundover bit 1/4" rather than 3/16"? And what colour are you going for on your build? Cherry or TV?

Cheers.

MMIF has plans - these are available free elsewhere but I will cost about $8 to get them printed full-size at Kinko's. PM me if you want the PDF (or DXF, DWG) - I couldn't find the link where I found them. The GBT templates are good I have a set for this one too.

Thanks so much for all your help, guys! I actually got the PDF sent to me from one of our other fellow members here. And I actually don't need anything that's perfect for right now, since this will initially be used for a small scale build anyway, but someday I may want to do a full scale version. If and when I get started on this small scale junior build, I'll start a thread on it (come to think of it, a small scale version of a junior should probably be called a "toddler" LOL).

Red, I used what I had here which was a 3/16 RO Bit. Was it the proper one?
I don't know but than again I didn't plan on making an exact copy of a DC Jr.
As for color?
I'm going with an Amber Clear like on this Hamer:

I would have writen earlier, but I just found your thread. Your routing looks fine as with everything you've done. Good luck and please post photos of the heal? Sorry I didn't catch you before #42 where I see you've already cut the heal round, but it still looks incredible.
As I explained above, this isn't going to be an exact copy so i'm fine with the heal the way it is but thanks for the info. When i started to make the neck, I didn't have any photo's to go by so I just assumed the heal was rounded.
Same goes for the headstock veneer.

I guess one should never assume ha?

The Custom Shop 57 reissue has a veneer - this '59 looks like it has one too (look at chip by low E tuner)

Re: LP DC JR Project Started.

Lou - thanks for the tip on the roundover bit size. I know 3/16" looks right but I've seen some single-cut Juniors and Specials where the roundover looked slightly bigger (Roman used 1/4" roundover on the MLP Junior). I'm going to do some test runs on a bit of scrap to see which radius looks more vintage.

But good call on the transparent amber - I think that's the classic shade for Korina. This single cut Korina Junior looks great - I've been eyeballing it to help make my Junior.

I'm looking forward to you starting the filling/finishing process.

Re: LP DC JR Project Started.

Lou, love the wood that you're using, and it looks like you're going to have a super sweet Jr on your hands soon!

You're not alone in the DC project; here's a recent shot of one I'm making as a bday present for a former guitar student. Just hit the face with some grainfiller and it's sitting on the table. Mine is definitely not supposed to look like a real junior (my own headstock, much thinner neck, recessed wraparaound bridge, and the body has contours on it).
