I've never been into Canada. I'd love to get up there and do some fishing!

I havent touched a pole in 6+ months but my friend still hits it daily here. We used to charter a boat out of the grand river at lake erie every year with Thumper Charters (Capt. Ron Johnson) The best!!! We used to haul Pigs outa that place.

We have a HY-Vee that opened up here in town and they have walleye @$12.50/pound. That's a hell of a lot cheaper that it costs us to fish for it

That is brilliant... I will be looking for them at the local home supply stores now. I really expected a link to some woodworking website for something that costs $10 or $20 bucks...

thanks!

She's a good girl, and It's a good excuse to get to build another guitar and get it ok'd with the momma at the same time.

You might want to tape your fingers up too. The damn things are sharp
You tend to get a little lazy after you get started and loosen your grip a little. I think it's too early in the build stage to start staining if you no what I mean.

Re: "camille" small build

A little help please! I want to route the truss rod cavity tomorrow, and at the last minute I decided I should go with a slim taper for cami's build. Does anyone have the specs like on the stewmac plans at the 1'st and 11th frets? Since this is for a 8 soon to be 9 y.o. the 59 neck is a little thick isnt it?

Re: "camille" small build

looking in the back of The BOB the thinest 60,s neck was

thickness at f1 20.0mm (40 thou thicker than 3/4in)
f11 21.8mm (just under 7/8in)
width at nut of 42.8mm
at body joint 54.5

thinest measurements over all (a mixture if you will)
f1 20mm
f1 21.8mm
nut 42.5mm
body join 54.3mm
hope that helps

Re: "camille" small build

Just a thought because the neck is shorter, will you be using lighter guage strings?
If so the over all neck thickness could be thiner(Ibanez style).
the thinest for the stew mac hot rod style truss rod is 3mm under the adjustment nut area,(I would have thought that this was too thin but I fix cars for a living)so the thinest I see the neck at the nut is 14mm (1mm counter sink for the brass block,10mm for the truss rod)

Just been rereading my post and realised it may not have made sense.the neck measurement of 14mm is without the fretboard on.

Re: "camille" small build

I finally got around to uploading some more photo's of progress.

Some of the photo's are self explanatory..........

I found a hooked shaped x-acto blade that worked great for getting in tight to trace the mop. Oh, I used mop on this because cami liked it better than the celluloid i used on mine. (she thinks I am building a guitar for a friend) I then followed up with a normal x acto changing the blade everytime I did a new one.

Re: "camille" small build

Starting on the curved truss rod route. I already messed up on the first neck by getting the headstock too thin and had to cut another

Using the jig I made for my first guitar with a shorter curve in the template

Re: "camille" small build

Making the truss rod. I don't remember anybody posting photo's of this. Not
very technical or exciting or very good pictures for that matter but here they are anyway. This is the stew mac truss rod.

cutting to length......

I couldn't get the picture very good but I like to gind a small bevel on the end before I thread it, or anything else for that matter.....

Re: "camille" small build

Truss rod installed then maple strip glued in......

Later I sanded down the maple strip flush to the fingerboard then glued on the wings.....

Cut the taper on the finger board....

Then I finished cutting the fret slots to depth and fretted the board.....

Re: "camille" small build

Ok, Here is what I have for her headstock. You have already seen the mop duck in earlier posts.

What do you think of this? Too much? I like it, but I'd like to know others opinions.

The headstock is the same as a full size other than I took a bout 3/4" off the top

Here is on with my full size......

Thanks,
It helped me out a lot, I have a hard time with my finger on delicate operations, they've been abused pretty badly over the years.

I like it, the duck doesn't look out of proportion at all to my eyes. I say go with it.

Thanks, it's the third set I have ever done. At least they get a little better/cleaner on each one.

I used grizzly mop since they had the points, I don't think I will use them again though. I don't think they were very good quality. Some had pretty deep depressions that had to be sanded out and rough saw marks. Then one of them was pretty translucent like if you sand one too thin and can see the wood. (which I know from experience) but these are all pretty thick. I didn't find out till it was glued in either.

Part of me wants to route it out and replace but the other part says that's were all my problems usually start. I'll probably leave it.

Oh, and the board is just a stewmac indian rosewood.......

Thanks, I sure like it. It helped chopping off some of the top too as far as proportion. I wasn't sure if the "Camille" was too big or not.

I'm thinking of doing her birthdate on the back of the headstock using the technique mongrel and ex-n have done.
