Re: "camille" small build

I got it finish sanded, well good enough for the stage I'm at anyway.

I'll bore y'all with more pics.........

The black ring at the neck is a clamp mark with the guide coat left in it.

I like the way the carve came out, I think on this small scale it looks more voluptuous, kinda enhances the re-curve area, sexy........

I'm all ready for the neck angle, pick up plane and mortise now. Still trying to find out what angle I should use for the neck, referring to my last post

Thanks for chiming in Frank, I suppose I can draw the profile like on the stewmac plan and figure it out. I don't see why it would change that much from the full scale. Since this guitar is a present and I'll be cutting it close for my daughters B-day, I sure want to think everything through. I only have one shot so hopefully no major f-ups.

Use the same degree as in the full scale build, it'll be fine.

Thanks Frank! I can't wait to see them installed. I can't imagine anything
working better in this build.

I tell you though this build is gonna give me a stroke. I swear I spend more time checking and double checking and second guessing myself than I do actual working on the guitar. I'll admit on my first build I was spoiled because of all the great build documentation on here from everybody. Right now I'm kinda out here in the breeze so to speak .

Great experience though, thanks for inspiring me to do a small build.

Thanks Fletch, I would love to do a "v" next but I think my wife is standing in line patiently for her christmas present
This will be an expensive year for me. My first 59 replica-ish, My daughter's little build and one for the wife. I can't think of when I have learned more though from a great bunch of guys here, It's worth every penny!

Re: "camille" small build

I know a guy that has a cnc router he basically built from scratch. He does a lot of engraving and carving in our area. I ran the idea by him of cutting the duck inlay for this build out of one piece instead of putting multiple pieces in.
Basically taking the .050" mop from stewmac and machining the cut lines down .030" not routing all the way through. that way I can rout the perimeter of it and set it in as one piece. I can come back later and fill the routs with epoxy making it look like multiple pieces. I gave him a good file that he didn't have to mess with much total time took 1hr.

Re: "camille" small build

Finsihed off the binding rout around the horn. Finally figured a way that was quick and easy for me, but I didn't photo it since I left my camera at work sorry. I ended up using a hook shaped exacto blade and cut the line I had marked out. I used a maginifying lense attached to my bench. After that I used a single edge razor blade and sliced off .010" at a time. After each slice I used the hook and cut a little deeper from the top. then getting a new blade each pass. Had it done in no time and it turned out pretty damn good. The Razor blades cut really well as long as you tossed them each pass and got a new. That way I didn't have to use any force at all and not risking a slip.

Finished and ready for binding...

Now I couldn't resist laying a few components out. I can't wait to get the pups in!!

Then with the full size humbucker rings

I think the mini's are going to look killer. I think they help open up the space a little on the small body.

Thanks Fletch, I can't wait to see how it turns out. I am worried it may be too small.

I agree! I'm definitely going to have to use a set of those on my next build. If you can, please show detailed photos of the pickup routing process...I've never done a mini hum or P-90 before. Thanks in advance.

No problem Frank! I've never done one either so got to do some homework. I'll probably hold off until the neck is glued on though. I want to make sure and get the bridge located first. It's pretty obvious were the finger board goes but I want to make sure it looks good proportionally if that make sense.

Northern Quebec. It's a HUGE resevoir called....The Cabonga

I caught a 5lb Walleye there last summer. I was there in early July this year, I was catching around 2-3lb.

I think it's relatively well known, lots of Americans fly in / drive up.

Hey Fletch, ..... I used a regular wallpaper scraper. It worked really well and every now and then I would drag the sharp edge against some cardboard to give the edge a little "curl" I also, on the preliminary scraping to get it close, taped off the rest of the edge to keep from removing any material on the body. Once I was close I took the tape off and went around it to make the binding and body perfect with each other.

The trick is to scrape it on cardboard away from you then when you scrape, pull it too you. The curl on the edge seemed perfect!

I havent had the guiness in a long time They (plural) were killer
