Re: Ex-Nihilo's 2nd LP Build
Your first build landed here in Denver, I think.
The new owner posted about it over at TDPRI with a link to that build thread. I read that and when this one showed up...what a ride! Congrats on a job well done Kevin |

Re: Ex-Nihilo's 2nd LP Build
Man this is going to be a beautiful guitar! Can't wait to see it when it is done! Thank you for documenting this so well. And by the way, you take very good photos!
On a side note: What is it about learning and watching how guitars are made? It is like CRACK.

Re: Ex-Nihilo's 2nd LP Build
Hey thank you VERY VERY much! All of you. You really say some kind words.
I have to say, I am really really pleased with how this guitar came out.... I did not have any mess ups. Everything went together really well. And now it is ready to be finished. In the next hour, I am going to do the serial number. Tonight I hope to put the grain filler on the back.... Should I put any red it it or leave it light brown? What would look better with a honey burst? ![]() meyekel, I am glad to hear that you are enjoying the guitar. Are you planning on checking it? That is one of the things I am really worked up about right now. At the beginning I have it in my mind that I would like to have a nice vintage aged looking LP. Now, I am looking at a pristine looking guitar.... should I age it? ![]() Sincerely, XN |

Here is the pickup cavity route. The template is two-way taped to the pickup plane. ![]() And here is the guitar ready to be finished. ![]()

Re: Ex-Nihilo's 2nd LP Build
Good guesses guys.... But you are not there yet.
What about the back of the guitar? Brown or a bit of Red? If you have BOTB, please give me a page number of what you think. |

???????!!!!!!!!!!
Now that's what I call a gift!!! Over to your guitar, Page 97, 9 1885 is a beautiful honeyburst, I think it would work great. |

Re: Ex-Nihilo's 2nd LP Build
For what it is worth, 9 1854 caught my eye.
Of your two choices, my vote goes to 9 1885. It is similar but just a touch lighter. Any of the Honey Bursts in my eye will be magnificent. Your top has interesting grain and should reallly pop! |

Re: Ex-Nihilo's 2nd LP Build
Fantastic thread! Very informative and the build looks great.
I'm curious - will you drill the headstock for tuners after finishing or before? why? FWIW I would go with classic red for the back and let it fade naturally. |

Re: Ex-Nihilo's 2nd LP Build
Thanks again guys. Here is what I did yesterday:
I don't have a stamp and did not want to wait to get one or to pay for one, so I decided to just draw the serial number. I started with pencil before the grain filler was applied. ![]() Then I taped it up the top and applied the grain filler. ![]() ![]() After wiping off the excess filler and allowing it to dry a bit. I sanded the back to lighten it. Then, I gently wiped the back with acetone it to even out the colour. I decided not to put any red in the filler. Red could be added on spray day. However, I find that I really like the light brown and I think it will go very well with a light honey burst. And once the amber coat is sprayed over the whole guitar, it will all be nicely tied together. ![]() Finally, I went over the serial number with a Pigma Micron pen (005). I finished it off by sanded the number with 2k grit sand paper to make it look old.
