Re: Ask Roman ?

Thanks Roman!

I think I will give this one a return and check it out at a better guitar store nearby, if that one is giving me the same problems I'll do a fret dress! I'd give it some love, but my wallet can't handle that, and I'm hoping to find a good deal on set up at a different retailer.

Thanks,
-Reddy

A brand new guitar should not need a Re-Fret, but a fret dress is common.

I would say if you dig the guitar, put some love into it, if not return it and find something you like better.

Re: Ask Roman ?

Here is a thread from our Epi section of the forum where I go though a full set up with lots of pictures. It may answer some questions people have, so I thought I would post the link here.

Complete EPI custom setup

Cheers,
Roman

Re: Ask Roman ?

Roman, should I wait to glue the neck in on this guitar until after I have grain filled and shot the sunburst on the top?

I should probably keep my nose out of Romans thread ,but it's going to be a
difficult task to get your spraygun into the ''undercuts'' in the cutaways
unless you virtually complete the spraying before you glue neck to body.
It's not unheard of for necks and bodies to be sprayed seperately and if it's good enough for Martin Guitars, what else can I say?.Love the guitar,Mr Morgan.

Re: Ask Roman ?

Roman, how do you feel about the strength of a double cut Les Paul or double cut PRS neck joint? Are they significantly less stable than a singlecut and, if so, is it something worth worrying about? I baby all of my set neck guitars (I carry them by the body, whereas with my bolt-neck models I have no worries about carrying them by the base of the neck) but was curious since I've yet to actually build a guitar, just work on and repair them.

Thanks

That's pretty cool!

To answer your question; I ( but that is just me) would do as much finish work before gluing the neck as possible. As an added bonus, glue squeeze out would be a breeze to clean up.

In my experience, they are strong and stable. Now on the other hand, a 2 pickup SG routed for humbuckers is something else. I've fixed a few that had neck to body breaks.

Re: Ask Roman ?

Dip it in paint.

I KID.

I'd mask off the gluing surfaces and spray the parts separately.

MAKE SURE THE NECK ANGLE IS CORRECT BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!
