Re: Building a Chambered LP
great craftmanship...im shocked gibson remove that amount of wood when they chamber their guitars...i thought it would just be something like the size of the electronics hole or something at another part of the guitar and not the whole body...

Re: Building a Chambered LP
I think that gibson takes less wood out of their guitar than I took out of mine. I actually think the guitar would have sounded more like an LP if I had left wood under the PUs, and probably will next time I do one of these. Though I was thinking about doing maple under the PUs instead of sapele.

Re: Building a Chambered LP
Great build, beautiful guitar.
One question. On the templates you used for the neck cut-out and the PU holes how do you align them? They seem to just sit there without reference points. Thank you, Bill

Re: Building a Chambered LP
I teach, and starting today, I'm off for a month. Monday, I start my 59 replica project. My goal is to go as slowly and carefully as possible. I'm going to redo all my templates from the ground up first. I will do another thread like this one, so stay tuned.

Re: Building a Chambered LP
Well, I've started the 59 replica project, but think I might hold off on doing a thread for it. I've yet to be happy with a guitar I've built, and want to try and do this one right. I tend to go to fast and either, a) get too focused on playing the thing and make little compromises to get to that point faster, or b) too focused on documenting the thing and try to go too fast. On this one I am going to just go really slow and enjoy the building process and post all the pics when I am done.

Re: Building a Chambered LP
apologies guys, but all the pics are going to go offline tomorrow. My web hosting contract has expired and I am switching domains. I will post a link to a new version when I gets online.

Re: Building a Chambered LP
What an amazing thread, thank you so much for sharing this. Beautiful, beautiful guitar, great playing in the clip. What struck me the most was that the guitar sounded exactly as I expected it it to after reading the thread. Not as chunky as a standard LP, but much crisper, and airer/less compressed. Lots of pop in the notes. I don't know how to explain it more, but looking at the build process (nude wood!), and the final pics, I just imagined it sounding, again, exactly like it did in your clip. I bet a spruce top on a beauty like that would be realllllllly nice.
![]() Does it have any dead spots or similar issues? Every chambered guitar I have owned has weird dead/live spot stuff going on. Thanks again for sharing this process, very enlightening. |

Re: Building a Chambered LP
I apologize for all the pics going dead. I am switching webservers. I have tried to recreate my building threads on my new site.
If you are interested, head over to http://www.ahandkerchiefsandwich.com There is also a forum (no posts at this time), but I have created a section for guitars, and specifically building guitars. I will be doing a thread there for the replica that I am building right now. Please feel free to start a thread if you are building, or just say hello.

Re: Building a Chambered LP
Mr. Bones, how do you like your wrap around bridge from pigtail? I'm trying to figure out what type of bridge/tailpiece to use for my custom project, it's not a paul but I'm really excited about it.
