Re: Building a Chambered LP

Well, here is a quick sound clip. My recording skills are lacking a bit, and I think the mics are out of phase, but its an SM-57 on the cab, and a Rode NT1-A on the room. Guitar is straight into a super reverb no FX. Amp is on 7. I usually use a maxon, but a new one is on the way this weekend (woohoo!). Anyway, I tried to get a variety of tones with the volume and pickup selector. I'm digging the guitar so far, though it has a very different tone from a normal LP.

Re: Building a Chambered LP

Sounds great, Nick! Boy, if I could only play half as good as you, you might actually get to hear me play once in a while.

Might you be bringing this one to Jimmy's in April?

Re: Building a Chambered LP

I've been using the Faber Tone-Lock system on mine and liking it, and it would likely work for your application too.

Faber "State of the part"

Great guitar, congrats again (wish mine was 7lbs )!

I went with I higher neck angle to try and get more of a jazz box setup. The only downside to this is that there is less stud in contact with the body, so I called pigtail to see if they can make me some longer studs. Will hopefully find out about that tomorrow.

Really smooth man. sounds more open in the low mids as opposed to the higer mids. It's a fat tone! Great playing too man. Cheers

Re: Building a Chambered LP

Wow! Through the whole clip, I kept trying to think of what guitar models would match some of those tones, but it kept changing with pick attack and right hand position, in a very good way Sounds like a very versatile guitar. Well done.

First Rate...I had to listen like 4 times sos I could cop some of those Duane-like chops of yours.. Great sustain and lots 'O Wood with just the right touch of bite. You get chill bumps when you play that creation of yours? When are we going to see some more Pics?????

Hell yeah. I agree with Flick. Very unoften am I impressed with recordings of a guitar, but you got the right amount of overdrive and great clarity. I was playing my 63 ES335 and this guitar reminds me of that, but with an LP overtone. Best sounding guitar through a clip with blues sounding track I have heard. You play with great feeling and passion, it's obvious.

Wow, Nick...that looks absolutely gorgeous! To me, the color looks like something between an iced tea and a tobacco burst. Did you just use amber and brown? Or is there something else in there that I'm not seeing?

Mostly brown, a little red, and a drop or two of blue. I also did two amber coats right after the burst. I didn't put any amber in the yellow base coat, and the aniline yellow is very neon! I was worried about putting too many amber coats on since rumor has it the qualalacq ambers quickly. A good gauge for how much amber went on, the binding was bone white to start with.
