Re: Replica Les Paul data base
OK 59 Replica made in Russia at ShamRay. 75 year old Braz, and very old Mahogony, the top was from Curlymaple his old stock. I drove up to get it. VooDoo in this pick, but Dr.V's now. Pigtail parts, Fake 58 wire harness. Headstock say on top Hurricane, and Tiger Claw middle. Yes the Stainless steel post. Old RS pickguard and can't remember ring and plate. DJ inlays.

Re: Replica Les Paul data base
The nicest LP flametop 'burst clones I've seen were built by "KT Guitars" (Koontz and Thurston), here in Baltimore back in the 80's. Bruce Sandler at Guitar Exchange (also in Baltimore) had 2 of these for the longest time, and they were incredible. I recently had the chance to examine one of those 2 guitars up close and personal in my shop a few months ago, and was very impressed with the craftsmanship. The only detail separating this copy from an original was the "KT" logo on the headstock. I still have a hard time comprehending why someone would want to build an exact clone to begin with, but when I see a really nice one, I am truly amazed. I'm left to wonder what these craftsman could do if they were to focus their energy on something completely original.

your guitar looks like a refinished Hurricane i don't believe it's russian ![]() did you order it direct from shamray or you bought it used? do you have a close picture of the headstock? Hurricane was a japanese brand owned by Moridaira (Morris Guitars) they endorsed Mary Friedman and Jason Becker on Cacophony era (those ugly strats were Hurricanes) Morris made guitars for a lot of brands during since 70's to early 90's, including Fender Japan, HS Anderson and Bill Lawrence today they only make classical guitars the les paul copies had the Hurricane logo in abalone, exactly like you described i have a Hurricane, but a les paul custom model my bandmate had a hurricane les paul standard and it was awesome too they beat all the original Gibson studios and the standard i've played i'm going to buy a true les paul custom, but i'll never sell my Hurricane |

i own both of those guitars now. they are incredible, to say the least i used to own a few historic lp's, all 03 brazilians, had a few of each, but upon recieving these 2, i sold the historics, all 10 of them. i have a letter from bruce about the KT'S, stating they were copied from a real burst at the time, sound like only old wood can,LOADED WITH SOME NICE EARLY SIGNED SEYMOUR DUNCANS, THAT ARE VERY P.A.F. IN CHARACTER serial #'s 3103 @ 3047 these 2 guitars compare to most i've seen, [high end replicas] i woud be intersested to hear a little more about you impressions of the guitar you examined. perhaps your opinion of their value, and what it might cost to replicate today. i'm also looking to buy another if found i was told only 12 exist. pics are posted of them on the 1st page of this thread by my pal SPICOLI i put a r/s kit and WCR crosssroads in 1 of them, outstanding thanks in advance THESE GUITARS PROVE , IT DOSEN'T HAVE TO SAY GIBSON ON TE HEADSTOCK |

![]() All I can say (for obvious reasons!) is a friend of a friend built it. Modeled around the 59, built using all the so -called 'correct' woods, 8.8 pounds with a very confortable 59 style neck. Burstbucker 2&3 pickups (unpotted I believe) with Dr Vintage electronics. Fitted with repro hardware from the UK. What I really love about this guitar is it feels and looks hand made, there are slight imperfections if you like. For example the binding thickness around the body varries ever so slightly (impossible to notice unless you look really close) just like the originals, so I've been told. |

Re: Replica Les Paul data base
Here's my pair. Built by a someone whose guitars are very highly regarded these days, but these were built a few years ago when he was unknown and struggling.

Re: Replica Les Paul data base
Oh, I just posted this on another thread!
But here goes: ![]() It's a Max that I bought about 3-4 years ago. I understand it's an unburst style that was originally destined for a Japanese dealer? Seems most Maxs are 'properly' bursted? |

Re: Replica Les Paul data base
I appreciate all the beautiful replicas here! I just wonder why everyone is so reluctant to say "who" made the replica. Without that you can't have much of a data base.
Please, don't tell me everyone's afraid of Henry's attornies. ![]()

Re: Replica Les Paul data base
Most people who build replicas really don't want their names bandied about, especially if they inlay the G word into the headstock and apply a certain waterslide as well. There are a number of reasons, not the least of which would be Henry's attorneys.

Re: Replica Les Paul data base
Of course, we're afraid of Henry attornies. We can't throw money around...we need it to spend on guitars!
Hence, the brotherhood of secrecy ![]() Besides, if you can find a good luthier in Japan who specialises in 59 replicas, you can get one custom made. Actually, my friend recently got a qoute from this luthier for a LP replica. Braz boards, Honduras Mahogany, etc, etc...and all that jazz. This luthier is quite legendary in that he's a top-notch luthier for Tokai and Bacchus. But its a secret....can't say too much. Henry's ninjas are on the prowl. |
