A BW Build

I've been waiting to start on this project for quite a while now, so I'm pretty giddy about getting the ball rolling finally! I thought, why not do a build thread for it, especially since its a probably a lot more in line with the "norm" around here (compared to the shreddy McShreddersons that I've been building non-stop for the past year).

It's a semi-hollow guitar that I'm building for my little brother and a new design that I've been working on for a while now. So I'm excited on a bunch of levels to get it started!

Anywho, here's some pictures of today's progress:

The guide outlines for the inner carve machined into the back of the top:

The rough top carve:

Inner carve done and oiled:

The body chambers routed out:

And then painted black:

The F-hole, in the rough:

And all clamped up:

Re: A BW Build

Really looking forward to this ... really nice top carve.
Btw ... I was browsing your page and came accross this:

Is this the bodyshape of this particular build also? I really like it!
I prefer it over the blackmachine style guitars (even though they look great).

That's actually the favorite of my designs, too, but this is a new one. Its kinda like a combination of a LP double cut and a PRS. I wanted to design something a bit more traditional. No offset lower bout and no pointy business going on.

Here's a frontal to show off the overall outline:

And don't get me wrong, I love building those super strats, but I'm booked for the rest of the year doing commissioned DII builds, so this is a nice breath of fresh air

Here's a couple more pictures of the neck blanking process:

The individual maple laminates profiled out:

Cleaned up with the walnut pieces:

Any reason in particular for leaving the blank clamped for that long? ( looks like Titebond )

Really cool neck blanking process!

Aaron, allow me to ask where you put the strapbutton on the bottom end?

The "rim" of the body at the tail is about 1/2" thick, which should be plenty to bear the strap button screw. If it feels flimsy at all, I'll epoxy in a threaded insert and use a machine screw

Really special way ... both the laminated and flame maple headstock combination and the jig.
Nice small headstock. Really looking forward to more progress.

2D CAD into my CAM software... I'm too dumb to do real 3d modeling.

Re: A BW Build

Nice work
If I may ask a question on your jig for the scarf joint angles.
The one set of rails goes up and down the angled jig and the router slides back and forth on its own rails?
Sorry if I didnt word that correctly.

You got it. It offers basic 2-axis movement, and the platform is fixed at 13°. Really basic. The coolest part is that its wide enough to do my multi-scale necks as well (just angle the neck as needed when clamping it down for a nice compound scarf joint angle).
