What do you think of this yellow?
I just put on lemon yellow instead of bright yellow and I'm not sure what I think of it. It might be that its still a little wet. Too late now to change it. Is it a winner? Or dud?

Re: What do you think of this yellow?
It might be the pictures but for my liking the yellow is a bit too cold - just lemon
. To me there has to be more warm yellow tones.

Re: What do you think of this yellow?
It is always difficult to tell a color from a picture because my monitor may be showing a different shade than another.
If you are concerned with the brightness, use a tinted amber clearcoat to give it a better richness. Since it is too late to change what you have done without starting over, spray some test samples wit the same color on scrap and experiment from there. I think it will be great but I don't see what your mind's eye sees. |

Re: What do you think of this yellow?
In my experience a bright yellow to start with is the way to go. It will mellow naturally , if you spray a burst or added subtle toners then it just increases in depth and warmth. You can't go the other way however, if you start out with a yellow that's too dark or mellow you can't brighten it and every subsequent coat will make it even darker as will natural ambering of the lacquer from UV.

Re: What do you think of this yellow?
Oh I see...I thought you were worried about it being too bright. In that case if you're worried about it being too mellow in the end, dont shoot any amber coats over it.
For the record, I think it looks great!

I really like the top body. once clear coated it will be a very nice iced tea color The bottom body should amber up a bit when clear coated but like MRJ5 said Im basing that on the hue that my monitor is displaying. Looking at the photo it appears to be yellow shifted quite a bit. It looks to me as if the lighting the photo was taken in is probably incondesent lighting which tends to shift light wave reflection towards yellow as where neon tends to shift light wave reflection towards blue. Assuming this I took a copy of the photo and using a graphics editor reduced the yellow shift and the bottom one is very lemon yellow. But like I said when you add clear I suspect this will amber up and or warm up a tad.

Re: What do you think of this yellow?
This morning to took a damp rag and wiped off some of the color, or just diluted it. It looks more even now. I'm feeling a little better about it. I'm hoping the finish I put on it will make it pop.

Re: What do you think of this yellow?
Honestly... I like the lemon yellow better.. and.. i would hit the bright yellow with a couple amber tinted coats... (and by tinted. I only put a couple drops of amber in a 1/4 of a quart)

Re: What do you think of this yellow?
Just an update. I wasn't sure about this lemon yellow for a base coat color but as it turns out.... I really like the results. I should be able to get it plugged in by Wednesday evening. So if anyone ever thought of using lemon yellow, here's what you can expect.
