Pre build questions..need advice
Hi all,
Im about to start ordering bits for a EVH Frankenstrat project. Im going to try and build it as accurate as i can to the real one,but have a few worries about the body and neck. Am i better off getting the post holes in the body pre drilled or drilling them myself after i get the neck? i know The distance from the edge of the nut to the center of the pivot post for the Floyd Rose Original is 25 1/8" for a scale of 25 1/2" How do i know this will be correct if i ask for pre drilled? Thanks for your time Jon |

Re: Pre build questions..need advice
If you get the body and neck from the same source then there should be no problems.
If your parts are from different supliers then I would suggest waiting until you have the parts assembled before drilling for the bridge.

Re: Pre build questions..need advice
good point!
Im guessing they are easy enough to do? What are the common mistakes made when doing this? I used to be a bench joiner so im fine with wood working, but i have never really done any guitar work besides set ups for my self.I really dont want to mess alignment or intonation. Thanks for the help BTW |

Re: Pre build questions..need advice
Dont worry,i wont be "charging blindly head"..far from it. Im doing all my research and referance slowly and making sure i understand.
But as with anything there is a tendancy to make a mistake the first time you try to do something new. Im a technical artist for a living, so im used to working with complex shapes and measurments..but this is nothing compared to experience of the actual doing.Hence me asking here

Re: Pre build questions..need advice
I think you missed my point. I did not mean that I thought you were going at your build blindly. but rather you can't measure acuratly unless you know the reason you need a specific measurement. Knowing the reasons why allows you accuratly adjust to what you have at hand rather than just following written instructions that do not take into concideration any build up of tolerance of the assembled parts. By understanding the whys you can adjust for many previous errors of manufacturing tolerance build ups.

Re: Pre build questions..need advice
I wouldn't trust a "pre-drilled" body, unless it's coming in a "kit" form, where the builder
has actually gone to the effort of pre-assembly to verify proper spacing. As to "how hard"; it's no harder than measuring, marking and drilling. Probably something you want to do with a drill press, as it's vital that the bridge stud holes are perpendicular to the top. But outside of that, no biggie. |
