How I Resurrected an Abused Universe with Jesus!
What???
It's a thread about lutherie.....really ![]() Customer came in with a black 7 string Ibanez Universe. The peghead had been sanded down to the bare wood but badly done, the corners were rounded over and not very flat ![]() So he asked me to restore the peghead, refinish it in black and add the word "JESUS" in flourescent green to match the other appointments on the guitar. I had to think about how to do this...at first I thought about printing a waterslide decal but even though I could get the shade of green in the right ballpark, it didn't have the flourescent quality. It came down to having to use flourescent paint. I e-mailed the artwork file to a local sign shop that had a vinyl cutting machine. They cut a stencil from some low tack vinyl. I simply applied it to the peghead after I prepped and painted it black. Now the real trick to spraying a flourescent paint is that it must have a white background. So after applying the mask I sprayed white paint, let it dry then sprayed the green. This really made it POP! Here's a pic after the last coat of clear was sprayed, I'll buff it out today and the Universe will be restored ![]()

This is one of those cases where the finished product is much better than the concept. I don't know how you were able to do that with a straight face.

Re: How I Resurrected an Abused Universe with Jesus!
Thanks! and that's what it's about!
I e-mailed the photo to my customer and this was his reply "Fred, that photo made me very happy. You put the "Jesus" name exactly where I would have wanted it. I'm so glad your eye found the place to situate it perfectly. It is a really beautiful job. Thanks." So even though I say "I charge", making sure my customer is happy is the most important thing, not the money...money is transient and my customer's satisfaction will surely generate repeat business or he will pass it on by word of mouth.

Re: How I Resurrected an Abused Universe with Jesus!
Great post! For what it's worth, I once made an innocuous post featuring the image of Eric Idle whistling on a cross.....and one of the mods threatened to ban me for life!

Re: How I Resurrected an Abused Universe with Jesus!
Is Jesus the customer's name?
If so it must be easy to mock him, he takes 3 days for a comeback! Ba dum.... I'll see myself out. |

Re: How I Resurrected an Abused Universe with Jesus!
No it's not his name. He plays the guitar in church, so he thought it would be nice to have "Jesus" on there.
